    child maintenance automatically stops when child benefit stops, so you wont need to worry about the mother not telling you :)

    It doesn't work like that as my husband pays the money direct to the bank account of the Mother of his son. The payment will only stop when my husband cancels the Standing Order, which is why I am trying to discover exactly when to do this.

    You can ask the CSA to check if the child is still a qualifying child and I the CSA have ways to check that CB is still in payment. They may also contact the PWC to check. My partner has been paying CSA for a child who has been at college for on average 8 hours a week since September and not at all since January, but the PWC tells them otherwise so he still has to pay. Short of contacting the benefit fraud office he just has to take it on the chin. Only 5 weeks til child is 19 so not so bad.

    Well, his son is still at school till he's finished his A levels so that's not something we can do at the moment.

    By the way, who are the PWC?

    PWC = parent with care
    NRP = non-resident parent
    Only contact CSA when you think your husband's son has started work or is claiming a benefit, obviously there is no point doing it while he is still at school.

    Thanks for all the help, sorry I don't talk in jargon so didn't get the PWC term! As I've said, all I am trying to find out is when my husband makes his last child support payment. He doesn't pay it through the CSA so there really is no point getting them involved I just wanted to know the facts about exactly when payment stops.

    Just get your OH to tell the child's mother thhat he is stopping paying after the a levels and let the ex-wife work out when he should really stop.

    We don't want to do anything that harsh. All we want to do is pay the money for the correct period of time and not under or over pay.

    Thanks for that suggestion but the payments are not made through the CSA. Many years ago the CSA assessed the amount that had to be paid monthly but they have not been involved at all since. My husband simply pays his son's Mother an amount direct to her bank account every month, CSA have nothing to do with it now.

    Was your H's case formally closed or is it still open? The PWC can still request for the CSA to be involved, even to the point of collecting payments.
