Looking at the headlines, I assume we will be worse off; two earners, one child, and some childcare. But we have done well out of low interest rates, just taken out a second pension, and will cut our cloth according to our means.
I'm glad our child will not be repaying the money Gordon Brown splashed out in a desperate attempt to be Father Christmas; just one example is a local 1970s health centre that was demolished, to build a virtually identical one in the car park.
People are not stupid. We understand goodies have to be paid for, and future cuts would be deeper (hello Ireland) if we failed to act now. For Labour to claim they would not have cut as much, shows how dishonest they are. And it was their mess, after all.Been away for a while.0 -

I agree...
....except with the bit where you assert that people are not stupid. I'm afraid rather a lot of folk ....well...sort of are really.
As evidence of this, I offer the fact that The Sun is (by a country mile) the UK's best selling 'newspaper'Go round the green binbags. Turn right at the mouldy George Elliot, forward, forward, and turn left....at the dead badger0 -
According to listen to taxman I will be £16.51 better off per month compared to last year. Fiancee will be get £21.51 extra, why does it feel like they are giving me money even though it was ours to begin with?0

It looks like I'll be £25 per month worse off. Oh dear - I'm not sure I'll survive that. I'm off to protest this lunchtime.
What do I want? £25
When do I want it? Sometime before the end of the month, if you don't mind awfully
I can't see myself having sleepless nights over it0 -

And The Daily Mail is the 2nd.....0 -
And The Daily Mail is the 2nd.....
Yep - Equally valid point.
The DM is a terrible excuse for a paper and in a sense worse than the Sun as it (somehow) still positions itself off as 'highbrow'. At least the Sun KNOWS it's a RAG written for IDIOTS.
The fact the DM is the only paper my Dad will read is a terrible cross to bear....Go round the green binbags. Turn right at the mouldy George Elliot, forward, forward, and turn left....at the dead badger0 -
I bet not in Oz though

Black Wednesday for me is more to do with last night's result than the tax changes.
In Aus they still have people blacking up for comedy on TV (seriously)!
Luckily my TV isn't working so I missed the game. Oh well, there's always the second leg.
Apparently after al-Fayed put up a statue to Michael Jackson outside Craven Cottage, a statue to Jim Bowen is going up outside the Emirates Stadium. The plaque will read, simply, "Let's take a look at what you coulda won".0 -
What worries me there is no nuance, no this is how we would do it better just a strict 'those nasty tories are stealing your children's money'.
We all know that no politician will open their mouth these days unless they have tested the message on a focus group so obviously your average focus group member has no difficulty in falling for this .
My point being what does that say about the country as a whole?I think....0
