Thank you Richard Webster. My solicitor actually came out to view the property yesterday so that he could totally understand the set up and the plans/titles/leases. He did say that really all the leases needed to be brought into line and this could be done fairly simply, but would take many months. The other flats have all been bought and sold within the last few years, and at present those occupying the other flats all seem very amicable. (I know that this could change in the future as property changes hands.) I am very grateful for all the advice you have given me Richard. :)

Just thought I'd update. Have finally exchanged contracts on this property and completing on Monday next week. It's been a bit of a lengthy process to say the least. But I was so glad that I had an excellent solicitor. Most of our hold up was caused by (not naming company here), but a 'call-centre' conveyancing company and the vendors therefore did not have a solicitor representing them only a convenyancing clerk. This sale was very complex and their representative did not have the knowledge or experience to deal with it. Anyway, hopefully all is well that ends well. Turns out Land Registry did have a copy of all the plans in the first place but did not retain a copy of the original lease. This has now been resolved. Thank you to everyone who gave advice to me. I can now sleep at night! :)
