Rasing the bancrupcy application fee

I was hoping not to have to go there but with being out of work for 4 months now and with the only income being JSA of £65 per week I just have no option but going BR.

I had a DMP while I was working, when I stopped working I broke the DMP and was sending all creditors £1 token payments every month but they have started selling off the debts to other companies and of course threatening letters started. All those "we have contacted you several times" (not true) etc etc.

As I have 7 creditors with total debts over 30k - I just need to go BR.

The problem is how on earth do I raise the money needed for the BR fee?

There is absolutely no way under the sun that I can save it from the JSA I get, it barely covers the bills and some very basic food.

I have nothing that I could sell.

If I could get a job (any job) to raise the money for the fee I may as well try to pay the debts off slowly.

Bit overstressed today as got another 2 lettsr from new companies who bought 2 debts from my original creditors, quite nasty too, saying I have paid nothing in Jan/Feb/March(I have - to the original companies, token payments for Jan/Feb/ March) and saying they are adding "fees" etc etc...

Does anyone have any idea how can I raise the BR fee money?

ANY suggestions very much appreciated....

Thanks a lot

Hi mate, not sure if this still applies, but you could get some help with the fee if you are on certain benefits

    may be worth looking into

The sticky thread Look Here First has some ideas of where to look for charities that may be able to help. You might have to apply to several for a bit of the money each though as things are tight for them all right now. Your local CAB might have some local sources too.

Remember that you should be able to gain exemption from the £175 Court fees as you're on a low income.

How much is the BR fee, it is around 500, isn't it?

It's £450 for the OR fees. The exemption form for the Court fees is EX160 and you can download it in pdf form from here, you'll need the third one on the list.

Had a quick look at the links, those charities are overwhelmed with requests for help and I doubt they would be able to help me.

I need some ideas on how to raise that money myself and in the shortest possible time :(

Anything left to sell on eBay? Help from friends/family?

Nope, nothing really to sell :(

Do not have any family that could/would be able to help....

But I got a dog... perhaps I get a hat and sit outside the tube station?

  • I car booted everything that I own but didn't use, old clothes, ds toys, ds clothes, I asked friends if they had a junk they wanted to get rid of and sold that, I made about £400 in 3 days (and my home was a lot cleaner after:))

Do not drive/do not have a car and have nothing to sell really....

Just some books on MS Office 2007.... sigh....may put those on Gumtree, have no idea about Ebay, never used it, sounds complicated with all I have seen. Gumtree may be an easier option...perhaps?
