Well, I'm guessing the most expensive for a standard gas boiler service will be someone like British Gas.

They're £79 in my area - although you can pay monthly (£6.61 per month) and this is just for an annual service - no other cover.

    Prices can vary by area.
Local independent folk should be downwards of BG's cost.

What do you mean by boiler maintenance? If we notice anything untoward with the central heating at any time, we give him a call and he comes and sorts it. Most things have been to do with the pump valves, never needed anything extra doing in the boiler in 20 years...

When we was at our old house, the boiler was covered by Domestic & General, we had a contract that included a service, I think it was @ £120 - £150 PA, so the service was included. In the first 2 years, we had quite a bit go wrong, some solinoid went and blew the main board, I think the main board was @ £300.
    It's always a bit of a gamble.

I phoned another company today for service quote..£75 +VAT,that seems like a lot to me, will see if I can get someone priverate to do it.

Oh dear - luckily we've never had a problem like that. Was it covered by guarantee, especially during the first year?
I must admit ours is a fairly simple Ideal W2000 boiler - but it (touch wood) has never actually broken down itself - our problems have occasionally been needing new valves upstairs in the airing cupboard and so on.
I'd try ringing round a bit more if I were you - a private chap might not be so busy at the moment?
