I stopped counting after I went over my budget last month! Opps! I hope I can make it this time.
  • Hi everyone

Back again this month after an overspend last month because of xmas pressies  I was not organised enough this yr to have a seperate budget but will do that for next year :D

Have menu planned untill 24 Dec and am using up freezer/storecupboard things to make space for xmas food. I have already bought xmas party food, snacks and chocs because I added those things to Oct/Nov shops so it's just fruit, veg and meat to buy, just she says :rotfl:

Total Budget £375 this includes extra 3 adults 2 children for about a week

First Week (whole months "ordinary" food) £136 Xmas Wine and Bubbly £93.11
Total so far £229.11  Left for everything else £145.89

  • I'd like to join in this month. At the beginning of this year I was doing very well with my food budget, and had got to an average of £45 a week, however this has slipped and I'm now averaging £70, and not too sure what the extra is going on!

We are a family of 4 (two adults, two kids), hubby is now taking sandwiches to work (maybe thats the extra? nah, just me being lazy!)

OK, budget of £60 per week, looking to lower in Jan. Should manage, we're away for 4 days, but we're also feeding another 4 for Christmas, and eldest daughter would like a birthday party for 12 kids!!
Proud to be dealing with our debts - We WANT to be debt free DEC 09
    Grocery challenge: £230 / £230 left
  • November went ok and managed to move over £135, so for the 4 week period we spent £165 but thats including Diesel and we went to Birmingham. Still have about 1/4 tank of fuel too.

Used a ton of vouchers at Waitrose and have been buying a few treats each week to scoff over Xmas period including some booze and beers, so have done quite good with how little we have spent.

This month we have more vouchers to use up from the Food show, but still need to get meat for Xmas (goose, gammon & turkey breast). Waitrose cheapest Goose was £28:eek:    , but after using vouchers, should get for £13:D

Still have the same budget £300 for the next 4 weeks but this includes fuel, but hopefully should be able to move over another £150 at the end of the month.

    Good luck guys

  • Hello all, I'd like to join the December grocery challenge too (This is my first post since discovering the exciting world of MSE so please excuse me if I'm not doing this properly!). My bf and I have a budget of £140 per month for food, basic toiletries, cleaning stuff etc. It seems quite a lot compared to what some other people spend for a whole family! I don't know where it all goes... I try to plan what we eat each week but I'm sure there are other areas I could make savings on, so I'm hoping that this forum will help me with ideas....

New flat, new budget, new commitment to MSE!

We are a friendly bunch here, so any questions...just ask!

Your best bet is to write down what you already have in, then set a meal plan accordingly and just buy what you need for the meals written down. This may be difficult to start with but its easy afetr a while.

    Good Luck.

Count me in. This food budgeting thing is all new to me, but I am keen to learn.

Currently spending about £30 a week on food which is scary. Did a stock take last night though, so hoping to get this week's food for under £5, as only need milk, veg and cat food.

    Here goes....

Oooh! Can I join? My first challenge :D

I have a freezer that probaly won't be able to take anything else in it, so I am going to use up my freezer and my cupboards.

I plan to spend no more than £50 in december, and that is including a tesco clubcard voucher for £29.50 (already spent my other one). So actual money spend no more thant £20.50, including christmas dinner. Fingers crossed.

I don't need to buy washing/cleaning products , in fact, I could probably sell them! So, this should just include food.
