Gas Meters

Options
Is the only difference between a metric meter and an imperial meter the fact one measures in cubic meters and the other in cubic feet? I'm with Scottish power and have to do all of the meter readings myself, now the website where you enter these say I have an imperial meter yet the meter itself says it measures in m3.
If it is taking these readings incorrectly then if I've worked it out properly then I'm paying at least a third more that I should be.
I've spoken to Scottish Power and they are adamant the meter is imperial, I just don't see how this is possible.

If your meter says m3 on it then it is definitely measuring in m3 and Scottish Power have the wrong information. You will have to insist to them that they are definitely wrong. If they try to fob you off then ask to raise a formal complaint.

Does the meter serial number on the meter match that on your bill? If it isn't it may be a missed meter exchange. There should be details of the exchange which will tell how long ago it was changed and therefore how long your bills could have been calculated wrongly.

Also Photograph the meter and email it to SPOW with a complaint.

If you are correct you are paying 2.83 times too much for your gas.

Look at a bill. If you are being charged for a Metric meter a gas unit will be approx 11.2kWh so, say, 100 gas units is 1,120kWh

If you are being charges for an Imperial meter a gas unit is approx 31.7kWh so 100 gas units is 3,170kWh

    Hi blue sabre,

As you have correctly been advised if your meter shows the units are recording in m3 then it is a metric meter.

If you wish to e-mail me your account details to onlinecomplaints@scottishpower.com I will investigate this for you and make sure we get your bill corrected.

    Kind regards
