help for dog

  • A friend told them they would pay for the shots and help but they could pay the friend back. At least now they can keep the dog. For some reason PDSA said no, they wouldn't help with neutering or vaccines. I haven't heard about the jab month, will look into it. But I will have to have words with her about putting some money aside for this type of emergency. But when you are on benefits, as she and I both are, try putting money aside and something always comes up. That is why I am here. I am trying desparately to learn to save so I don't end up in trouble like she has.
Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money but you can't get more time

Have you a local credit union? They offer small loans at a cheaper interest than provident etc. Do ring the pdsa and talk to them yourself and see if there is any help there at all. Here you have to be in receipt of council tax benefit to get their help. I had my dogs booster done at the pdsa clinic last month and it was just under £30 there. If they are willing to help please do make sure you/your friend leaves a fair donation towards treatment as they offer a fantastic service which needs supporting as much as possible.

  • Hi, glad there's a solution and hope the wee soul is all fixed up soon. Def have a look at jab month - you put in your postcode and it lists vets in your area taking part & then just print a voucher off.

Also have a look at the links I posted re PDSA memberships - didn't go into them in great depth but it looks promising and at least you & your friend could be registered for any treatment in the future.

Re putting money aside, it's really hard and I know what it's like - there's always something that's desperately needed.

I've recently set up a "pets pot" from my main bank account and stick a little away every month towards the boosters (and those unexpected visits to the vets) - with 2 cats & 1 dog, they alone mount up to over £150/year:eek::eek:.

This seems to be working well - it's like my other direct debits and once the money comes out my main account, it's like it's been spent and as there's not cash lying around the house, I'm not tempted to dip into it.

    Good luck

Still not convinced by this, OP. Be very careful that they don't have another crisis soon that can only be solved by someone bailing them out again.

  • My Dog had a total crucial rupture, other half left me and cancelled pet insurence. I called all these so called dog charities for help, saying I would pay them back weekly, as I am on benefits.... not one would help because I did not live in the area.. RSPCA said no, PDSA said no, tailwaggers did not reply to me.....
