Car Insurance - Can I do this?

Just after a bit of advice as to whether there are any rules against me doing this...
My car insurance has gone up dramatically this year and my renewal was due yesterday so I have insured with AXA on my current car. I have a claim dated 23/04/2009.
I am looking at getting a new car and was wondering if I waited until after 23rd April and insured the new car through someone else and cancelled with AXA that would mean that next year my renewal would only be due on say 26th April. And the claim from 2009 would then be 'just' over 3 years old. I have noticed several insurers (Including AXA) only ask you to declare claims from the last 3 years.
So if I insured the new car on 26th April this year - when my renewal comes next year would htat mean that I wouldn't have to declare the claim to any insurers that only ask about the last 3 years?
Hope this makes sense. It's a lot harder to write down than it is in my head!

If the claim was in April 2009, you might want to check your calender if you think that its more than three years ago.0

I understand what you are getting at!
You could do that, though the cost of cancelling your current policy might outweigh any savings not having to mention the claim will make (in 2012)!0 -

Seems flameclouds attempt at being sarcastic backfired :rotfl:
Flamecloud - instead of the OP looking at a calender maybe YOU should learn to read properly before replying? The loopy one has gone :j0 -
You can do it but cancellation fees are charged these days, so it won't necessarily be cheaper.0

Yeah, my bad!0 -
Good idea. Your cunning plan will work. Walk/cycle till the 26th, get fit plus save the cancelling hassle and cost.
Dont tell me u live 67 miles from work and can't LIVE without a car.0 -
No, only 25 miles from work on a route that would mean a bus, a train and then two more buses!Dont tell me u live 67 miles from work and can't LIVE without a car
Thanks for the replies. Just wanted to check that there wasn't anything that prevented me from doing this. I think it will work out cheaper in the long run especially as when I come to renew next year I will be up to my five years no claims and wouldn't have to declare a claim. And on the new car that I am looking at I can get insured for £100 cheaper than AXA will insure it so that will cancel out my cancellation charges0
