We are currently paying £17.93 a month to Scottish Widows which, if I die, would pay off the mortgage. Is it possible to get a life insurance policy that would pay off the mortgage and leave some money left over that is cheaper than £17.93?
I'm not entirely sure how it all works so any help will be gratefully received

Possibly. However, it would be an inefficient way to arrange your life assurance.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Its hard to say. It depends on you age, sex, health, family health, amount of cover, term of the policy.
If you have an idea of what your after, try something like the tesco website or one of the comparison websites. If you would prefer advice you should go and see a mortgage or financial advisor.
