payment methods on ebay?

What's the best method for a payment from the likes of ebay paypal or cheque when selling.
I hear so many things about charge backs with paypal how is the done,is this only if an item is not received or regardless if the item is received or not it still can be done and why is this possible?
Then a buyer can end up with the item and refund on money and seller not have item and money taken back.
Have i missed something and is this what happens or is there only certain reasons a buyer can do this? if so what.

I just need to be clear on this.

You can have a charge back against you if you can not prove item was posted. So you really need to send items recorded delivery at least. That should keep you covered.

I find payers by cheque the worst normally either kids bidding or those coming back from the pub.

Bank transfer is the best (for a seller) not so good for a buyer, but its fast and easy.

I agree with Hintza, I can't abide cheques. They take forever to come through the post, on a number of occasions now they have been wrong and I also had one reversed from my account after 6 weeks!

I like paypal or bank transfers. Bank transfers are free which is great, but paypal is worth the charges as I get a lot more interest in my items. However, having said that as soon as I get to £50 in my paypal account I whip it out just in case (i'm not sure if that makes me paranoid or just cautious?)
