BT deal offered - not sure if it's a good deal

Hello all

I have just had a phone call from BT offering me a no catches package (according to the caller). As we only have line rental from them he offered me this Free package which includes free weekend and evening calls.

To be honest, he had a strong Scottish accent and spoke very fast so I couldn't make up my mind if it was a good deal or not!

If it is free, and he said it involved no contract, then it may be worth doing. I don't know if I am paying extra for the service we have; we must do or he wouldn't have called, I suppose!:D

If anyone understands what I am on about I would be grateful for advice.

It's BT's £3/month Unlimited Evening & Weekends calls plan which is available for £0/month to anyone willing to agree to a 'renewable' (auto-renewing) 12 month contract.

    Nothing special really.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

If I'm right, It IS a contract. A 12 month one. It would be moving you to their Unlimited Evening and Weekend package including calls to 0845/0870 numbers. If you don't cancel at the end of the period, they roll it over to the next 12 months. I had the same call yesterday evening and have verbally accepted the contract, but will now use the cooling off period (when the paperwork arrives) to cancel and stay with my CPS.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. We were thinking of leaving BT altogether (mainly because I am tired of their never ending marketing calls!) which is why I hesitated before agreeing - that and I couldn't really grasp what the chap was on about!

It is a contract, then, I thought it must be though they say it isn't.

They put me off signing up to one of their deals when they offered 'free' TPS membership when it's free anyway and then gave me some tale about how they renew it annually for you :p

Ofcom are proposing to ban these type of rollover contracts.

BT,s Privacy at Home includes TPS registration if you have not already done so.It also includes Caller Display at no extra charge subject to you making 2 calls a month.

Your line rental already includes free weekend calls, all BT line rental tariffs includes some element of calls as well.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
