Well semi success. Most of the dishes are clean. Some will have to stay in for another go.0

I use the value ones which are only about £1.70 for 30. What are the advantages of using powder? Is it just so you can decrease the amount used?

Basically yes. I just find the powder better than some of the cheaper tablets and if the dishes aren't too dirty I don't use much powder or use extra if they're very dirty.
Part of it might be nostalgia as well

bit late now sorry but I've used stardrops in the past that seemed to work ok.
With regards to using half a tablet I've done this too but had the finish powerball ones which don't work so good as we found the half without the ball didn't wash/rinse well- Make 2023 in 2023 # £00/2023

I always use powder and never the amount specified. It lasts me ages and it is much more cost effective than tablets. I vary the amount I use according to how dirty the dishes are and always rinse off first before putting dishes in the dishwasher.
Glad you found a temporary solution. I would have suggested running the machine on empty too. Do give the powder a go and see how much you can save!:money::dance:Sometimes I sing and dance around the house in my underwear. Doesn't make me Madonna. Never will. :dance:0 -
I have used washing up liquid in the past
but literally a spot or two, and more and you do get the crazy suds (yes been there done that) 0 -
To get the best results for least money, buy seperate powder, salt and rinse aid.
Some notes:- You can use half soda crystals and half powder
- Use GRANULAR salt...and YES, you still need to use it, even if the detergent says it has 'salt action'..otherwise the water softening unit will not be recharged and may eventually pack in altogether
- White vinegar is a very effective rinse aid, is environmentally friendly and will not leave items smelling of vinegar.

I bought some broken tablets on ebay, after a recommendation on MSE. 15kg £6.99 plus postage (£5.99). Shared with a friend, so we should bo ok for 18 months or so! You can choose the size of the piece according to how dirty the stuff is :-)0
