in Cutting tax
Hi , just a quick question .
My OH is registered for online filing of his tax return , this is how it was filed last year.
With today being the last day of the current tax year , if he logs into HMRC tomorrow will his tax return which is due to be completed already be there?
In other words , if he wanted to log on and file it tomorrow morning would he be able to or is there a delay before he is able to do it?
Not overly important , im just curious .
Thanks.

Info from the HMRC website:Monday 4 April 07:00 – Wednesday 6 April 06:00
Due to a scheduled upgrade you will be unable to access our online service between 07:00 on Monday 4 April and 06:00 on Wednesday 6 April
I assume this is to upgrade the system so that the 2010-11 tax return is made available (Plus other stuff).
But, I have not seen anything specific to say it would be available from 6 April 2011 (But I guess it should be)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I always wait until September myself, but seem to remember other people saying that HMRC are usually ready early in May.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Well , out of curiousity I have just got my OH to log into his HMRC account and his tax return is there already.
The message says "we sent you a notice to file on 6th April 2011 but you will not have received it yet".
Theres then a link to click if you want to submit your return now.
I wonder how many actually file their return this early? We got OH's done mid November last year so will probably leave it until then this year too.The loopy one has gone :j0 -
Why wait ?
If it ends up that you are due a refund, get it in early to receive the refund sooner.
You only need to wait until you have all your tax certificates from taxable savings accounts and your P60(s) etc. so that you have the end of tax year info applicable.
You can always enter all the details now, but don't actually submit it until all figures are to hand. Then you can see the tax calculation right away, may help with financial planning too, no surprises late in the year !This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Hi.
Our (or at least OH's business) isnt a massive money maker so I am confident that we are not due a refund (sounds nice though) His "business" is a self employed taxi driver.
Tax certificates for our savings......Mmmm , I think you have to have some savings to get one of those. Unfortunately what he earns covers the bills and upkeep of our Kids etc so not very much of it reaches the bank :rotfl:
I remember someone telling me that a return which is submitted very early or one which is submitted very close to the deadline is more likely to get pulled for enquiry...wonder if there is any truth in this? Not that it would matter to us , im just curious. The loopy one has gone :j0 -
i can't get logged into the self assessment page!!!0

I find that if you leave it that late you find yourself scrabbling about.
Some small savings account has a provided a tax deduction certificate last year complete with a a corner printing the message, "we won't be sending these out next year unless you ask for them".
So you go on line to find the net interest posted to the account and discover that the online statements only go back (say) 15 months.
Nobody will tell you the figure over the phone, they won't even say yes if you say was it £45.37 ?
Two weeks later you are worrying if the figure has got lost in the Xmas post.
Anyone know if the on-line system now accepts figures for trust income from R185's0 -

To be honest we wont ever find ourselves scrabbling about...
The business is simple enough (taxi driver) , no other paye employment , no other income , no savings to work out interest on etc.
The tax return is pretty simple as in all we need is total turnover - which we have calculated already - and then total business expenses which we have also already calculated.
Its pretty much just as matter of putting this figures into the relevant boxes....
Anything more complex and I think I would be stressingThe loopy one has gone :j0 -

The individual edition costs £14.95 + VAT [discounted for previous users] and allows you to complete up to 7 returns supposedly for family members. It also covers R40s.
What's covered by the HMRC free online service
You can send the main Self Assessment Tax Return (SA100) online free of charge using the HMRC Self Assessment service. You can also use this service to send the following pages online - these support your main tax return:- Employment
- Self-employment
- Partnership - to report the income you receive as a partner
- UK property
- Capital gains
- Foreign
If you want to send other tax returns online - for example the Trust and Estates Tax Return or the Partnership Return - or other supplementary pages - you'll need to use commercial software.".....where it is corrupt, purge it....."0
