Do they sponsor this site???
I placed a criticised them in a reply to a Grabbit and the thread got deleted!!!
Does Clifford Dumbstone have that kind of power???
Basically they owe me money and won't even reply to my letters, hence as far as I'm concerned MSErs should be warned off buying from CPW.

The store manager in their Hereford branch mis-sold me a phone once. Just under two weeks later I tried to take it back and they refused. After an hour arguing with them in the shop, in which time they went out the back to supposedly phone Orange (took them about 2 minutes to do that) I went across the road to an orange shop to ask their advice. It took them 25 minutes to get through to Orange (maybe Carphone Warehouse has a super dooper number?) who said I could take it back to CW no problems. Went back to CW, they argused again, another super fast 2 minute call to Orange (out the back again) who said I couldn't return it, when I noticed a lealet in front of me on the counter saying if I wasn't happy I could bring my phone back within 14 days! Picked the leaflet up of the counter and showed it to them, they suddenly caved in, cancelled the contract and gave me a refund. Took over two hours to achieve. What a shower.0

Not sure if I agree with that. I'm an affiliate marketer. Basically that means I make money from promoting other peoples products.
This site does that as well. An example is the dvd rental section

If you point your mouse over the links half way down where it says tarting trial offers you'll see in the bottom left of your browser window the affiliate link. EG Blockbuster uses Affiliate future's affiliate program, they pay a website owner £10 for each person that takes a free trial through the websites link. Screenselect offer £17.50 per person that takes a free trial and so on.
There's lots of affiliate links in the main section of the site so my personal opinion I think the above quote is stretching the truth a bit. Normally ad's are a banner of some sort, on this site they are text links. Text links perform much better because people don't know that technically their actually clicking on an ad.
Although I agree, It's a very good way of making money.0 -
I'm fully aware of the affiliate links in Martins articles. He always lists which links pay the site, and which dont at the end of each article.
If you read the article 'How this site is financed'. You will see the affiliate links are added only after an article is written on a basis of best value. The fact of whether a company pays a fee or not makes no difference to whether it is included in an article. Martin will only include a deal if he feels that it is the best deal he can find for his readers. This is the complete opposite of the majority of sites out there that will recommend their affiliate links as the best deal, and ignore any deals that wont pay any refferal fees.
This makes the advice here much more unbiased. The affiliate income also keeps the site free to use. Martin has mentioned before that he gets calls from big companies asking how they can be included in his articles. His advice to all of the companies has been to offer the best deal, and he will include it. He will not include a deal in an article just because it pays the site a fee.
Like I said. THIS SITE CARRIES NO ADVERTISING FROM ANY COMPANY, and NO COMPANY/DEAL IS INCLUDED IN ANY OF MARTINS ARTICLES BECAUSE THEY PAY A FEE TO/SPONSOR THE SITE. THIS SITE IS COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT IN THE ADVICE IT GIVES OUT.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Affliate links are ads as I mentioned above. You say the advice is independent which is correct. The post I quoted though said "not sponsored" which is incorrect.0

I see where we are seeing things differently now. Yes, I agree the site is financed by affiliate income from links in the articles, but the point I was trying to make is that the site is not sponsered by companies for including their deals in the articles. This makes a big difference in the way the information is dealt with in the articles. It keeps the advice completely independent, and free of any influence from any financial inducements. We are lucky that Martin has kept this ethos. So many other sites make recommendations only because it makes the site more money, and not because they are best for their members (Uswitch is a perfect example of this). How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?
