How do I compare gas vs electricity usage?
Options
Hi everyone,
I wondered if anyone has the same problem as me in working out the cost of gas usage? We have recently moved house, and have gas for the 1st time. We have the old heating system with boiler behind gas fire in fireplace. At the moment when we have the CH on it heats the water up, but in the summer, we will have the choice of electric emersion for the water, or the gas. We've heard that the gas would be cheaper, even though it takes an hour to heat up, where as the electric takes 15 to 20 mins.
Someone suggested I check each metre then work out which costs more, but how do I do this? I can work the electric out, but not the gas, as with my supplier they spread the highest amount over different mnths, and then, I still wouldn't know how much of a mnth would then go on to the lower amount. I can't even work out the amount before I get the bill, which I do with the electric. I can get how many kws we've used but can't get past that.
Also with gas it's seems impossible comparing one supplier with another. All I wanted to find out was how to compare the cost of say 3000kws of gas between 2 suppliers?
Thanx.

It is simple if you have the kWhs. Can be fiddly if factoring in nPower but still simple. I don't understand what the problem is. I thought you are wanting to consider on a month by month basis whether or not to power up the gas boiler? So why does the seasonal weighting matter?0
