26k for average is cobblers.

You get ppl earning hundreds of thousands to people earning peanuts full time or part time.

average is more like 18k.

Same works in the other direction.

You get hundreds to thousands of people on minimum wage dragging the average lower.

This is why it needs a variety of statistics to eliminate any skews, mean, median, mode etc

• The 'average' (mean average) is a pointless term for salary comparison, without specification of a criteria.. e.g. 'Mean salary for male full-time employed 21-25 year old graduates in the north west of england'

Using the mean without a reasonable criteria forces lots of skew onto the data.

I have no interest in the 'average' salary.. it doesn't effect me one bit. I like to know that i'm earning the right wage for my age/location/qualifications/industry though

Not wrong there.

If the average salary in Hull was the same as the average in Central London I'd live like a king.
Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”

this is why it annoys me when someone posts that they struggle on a certain salary and they got in return with the 'you must be living well above your means with such a salary, i do fine with half'... when there are clearly massive differences depending on geography.
