Either, put them with, or next to some chickens, that know how to eat.

This is the benefit chicks get from being raised by a hen rather than under lights. We've got a broody raising some bought-in Black Rock days olds. It's fascinating watching her teach the chicks what's good to eat and what to avoid.

    Hi

Does weed suppression membraine work with ground elder.

I've got it all over the place and realistically I can't dig it all out. It's under a number of big shrubs which I'll never be able to dig it out from and the shrubs are too big to move out. So I'm wondering about surronding the base of the shrub with membraine and then bark chippings on top of that.

    What do you think ???

I don't want to use weed killers because I've two children + cats and I couldn't keep them out of the garden.

    Thanks

    Jen

Jen, a decent membrane will stop elder coming through; but if it's established you can sure it will come up somewhere - then you'll have to spray those bits unless you want to pull all the bark and membrane off every time you want to weed it.
Spraying's not ideal, but in this dry weather it will be child/pet safe within a couple of hours. It will kill it off quickly as well.
At home when I had elder under some of the shrubs I put maybe 6-8 layers of newspaper down and then covered it with a thin layer of compost (so it looked nicer) and that got rid of it.
