Prepiad credit cards, your brilliance required

Ok so myself and my partner dont have a great credit rating so getting a normal credit card isnt an option before i ask my quetion:

We at the moment are runnign a pretty successful ebay business and are spending around 800-1000 a month on postage alone with the pos office, we are paying for this on a debit card which is fine. But i wanted your opinions on whether you thought it would be better to use a prepay credit card that offers rewards? as we always have the money available to pay for the postage i just wonder if were missing a trick here in terms of earnign some kind of rewards from any of the credit card companies? as in air miles or whatever. Do any of you know of anything and if it would be worth it?

I didn't think prepaid cards did rewards? If anything, I though it cost you to use them in terms of loading and spending.

    I may be wrong though.
  • Ok thats what i thought maybe the case!! it just seems a waste that we are using this debit card every week for quite a considerable amount (probably not that much compared to soem of you guys) and if we had a normal credit card we could be earnign some kind of reward for using it. i guess we will get there in a few years once credit rating is back up and running.

Have you thought about helping your rating along with an aqua, vanquis, cap 1 type card? Obviously no rewards on these either, but it starts the ball rolling in demonstrating good credit behaviour.
  • yes i have a Capital one card which i pay on time every month in full, but whilst this may be kept in good order i have a manged loan with HSBC thats got about 8 months left

Good luck with the business, perhaps in the future you will be able to get a cashback credit card :-).

Would Post office or other couriers accept payment by credit card?

?? Is this in the right thread - it doesn't make sense.

You can buy stamps in a PO with a credit card if that helps.

..But you can't pay your road tax by credit card there.
I have never tried to buy stamps with a credit card but as they are losing out on revenue (the credit card company's charge) why would they offer this?

They offer most of their own products with a credit card - third party products depend on their contract with the third party as to whether that third party is willing to pay the CC costs or part of them. The only one I can think of that does (or used to anyway) is phone top ups
