Hello,

I wonder if you can help...

I need about 5k to pay off a wedding. myself and my partner have a combinded salery of 44k so we have no problem paying off a loan.

i have some cards but the banks are saying no for a loan.

I dont really want to get a credit report because i have heard debt agencys use this to track people down and i had some debts that are now statue barred.

what i need to know is a lender who is not a rip off who would consider us.. any ideas?

Why couldn't you save up for the wedding?

As you are now finding out, Statued Barred does not mean the loan is written off with no consequence. It simply means the loan is unenforceable, but this is also reflected in your credit report which is now hosed. You are not going to get a loan from any mainstream lender, your only option is the rip off merchants out there.

    You have two options:

    1) Geta credit report and work out who you owe money to and create a repayment plan. This way, although you will have defualts, at least you can say they are settled
    2) Save for the wedding

Your creditors will find you eventually - my advice would be to face up to this issue and deal with it. Otherwise it wont be a great start to married life.

If you have debts that are statute barred then why are you worried about creditors/DCAs locating you? all you would need to do for already SB debts is tell them you know its SB and don't intend to pay. After that they legally have to stop chasing you for the debt. Although if you don't have your credit file and your creditors don't have your address are you certain none of them have taken you to court? obviously if they then these will never be SB and you need to make arrangments to pay them.

If you have debts on your credit file that are not statute barred then you need to come to an arrangement to pay them and then gradually your credit file will improve. If you don't look at your credit file you cannot know what is on it, or therefore if anyone is likely to be willing to lend you any money.

You mean predictably responses that are truthful and you don't want to hear.

You've a history of not paying back, you are still trying to get out of paying, why should any lender lend to you?

Joey - you clearly dont pay it back. If there was a genuine reason for the debts being statued barred and the fault was with the lender, you would not be trying to hide from them. The fact you are hiding tells me you simply want to get out of paying it.

I'm glad that lenders are now refusing to extend credit to people who wont pay it back - hopefully it will mean cheaper lending to those of us who do pay back as agreed.

Forget about a loan - its not going to happen.

therefore you have unfortunately contradicted yourself. You had some debts, but didn't pay them and managed to get them statute barred. Now you are asking us to suggest a company that you may (or may not) do the same to.

Joey - you dont sound like the kind of guy that is going to take this advise but you need to get yourself over onto the debt free board. You are trying to scrape £5k together, you have a flat in negative equity, it sounds like you have secured loans aganst the flat too and you also want a house.

You pretty much sound insolvent to me.

You might think it is a laugh and life is for living and all that b*llocks, but this stuff will catch up with you. The question is are you willing to deal with it.

Is you wife to be aware of your financial situation?
