Hi I am wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction?
I am wanting to buy a new computer, this one is ancient, won't switch on most of the time, really old fashioned etc. etc. (only have windows 98)
so, I have around £500 to spend but am getting so confused with what type, I have spent hours on the Dell website but don't understand the 'technical' words!!
All i need my pc for is:
*using the internet
*storing photographs
*copying/back up dvd's and cd's
*making my own cd's
*putting songs onto my ipod (which is still its box!!)
*flat screen
*i would also like a printer/scanner, I looked at these on the dell website also but a few posts on her have advised against a dell printer as the inks are so expensive?
I really would appreciate any bodies help, however small, would you advise to go to PC world and explain the above?

if you want to buy from pc world, check out the web price first, it's usually cheaper, and don't let them talk you into extended warranties, and support contracts.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
I have found Mesh to be a really good company. They are quite cheap, not too big (when you call back they can put you through to the person you were speaking to last time), and their office is in the UK. When I bought my PC I was also able to haggle for free delivery. If you can get them to do this pc with free delivery you'll have change for a half decent printer from ebuyer or dabs.0

It is a very well rounded machine that should do most tasks perfectly well!!
The Dell printers are rebranded Lexmark ones.Lexmark have among the most expensive ink cartridges. I would go with Canon if you are doing general purpose printing or HP.The advantage with HP printers is that most models have the print head as part of the ink catridge. This means that the printer is less likely to give issues with blocked or worn out heads. If you are printing out only text and black and white documents I would personally go for a budger laser printer.Samsung make some good ones.0 -
thankyou for all of your replies, there's so many things to think of when buying a new pc!

to be honest the best place to buy at the mo is pc world! i know strange as it is. the staff a ok ish, so they might be able to point you in the right direction. i help a mate buy a pc the other day and pc world offered the best value. its probably best to buy a bundle in this case.
but if you have a bit of computer knowledge, you can do it this way. buy the base unit from pc world (the prices include monitors, ask for the price without one). then go online to ebuyer or http://www.novatech.co.uk and purchase a monitor and printer.
novatech is very good, there wharehouse is near me and i buy all my stuff from there.
hope this helps0 -

Beware of Mesh! See:

The number of people with problems of damaged, incorrect and broken new systems is substantial. The posts on the Hexus forum are the tip of the iceberg.0 -
