official discharge certificate

My job has just finished and I've just claimed JSA, so I was going to take advantage of the fact and get the official discharge certificate from the courts and claim exemption from the £65 fees. I've downloaded the forms, however, I'm not entirely clean on the exact process.

If I'm claiming exemption, do I have to apply for exemption first and then put the form in for the certificate? If I was on income based JSA it would be straight forward, but I'll most likely be on contributions based JSA (won't know until they process my claim as its still pending) and for that benefit there isn't guaranteed exemption. Anyone know how processing the exemption works?

Okay, I got bored waiting for an answer and called the court. Unfortunately, at least in my circumstances, I don't qualifiy for the excemption. Turns out that if you've only just recently been unemployed/claimed benefits, then unless you get awarded income based benefits then you are assessed based on your last three months income/salary and you have to have been on less than £13k to guarantee excemption ... darn it! :(

I did read your post WLITC but didn't know the answer! Have you contacted the OR and asked for a letter from them confirming your discharge? Thats what I did. Obviously its free, and I got one through very quickly. Im hoping that letter will be sufficient for my credit file clean up.

Well I tried that. I rang the office and was told to speak to a specific person and given her number, but everytime I ring it goes immediately to voicemail. I left a message and she's hasn't come back to me. I also emailed one of the Insolvency Examiner's who had previously emailed (it was 11 months ago tho so I guess he may no longer work there) and I got no response from him either. Actually, looking back at his email signature, its got the office address. As I never got an OR interview, I never really discovered where their offices are. Would it be inappropriate to turn up at the office and ask to speak to someone about doing me a letter?

It's Easter this weekend, maybe they're on holiday. Give them a week or two to get back to you in case they are, or maybe they're just incredibly busy and out of the office at the times you call.

I don't think you'll get a letter any quicker by turning up on the doorstep.

Easter isn't until Sunday 23rd April .. I rang a week last Monday, so unless they are having a VERY extended hols, I don't think its cos its easter.:rotfl:

As you suggest tho, they might be incredibly busy, but at the moment they haven't even responded/acknowledged they got my call or email. Surely popping in and asking will at least get the ball rolling? I'm the first to admit I'm not very patient, but its been a week and a day already, I'd at least expect some sort of response even if its to say they'll sort it out but it may take a few weeks.

I was working on the assumption you had only been calling this week. Some people turn Easter into a two week break, 2 x 4 days off! Oops! Got the point now, two weeks to go, sorry, thought it was this weekend, lol.

It sounds like you have been patient though, waiting since early last week. Try them again tomorrow and see if you can leave a message with a secretary, or find out when your OR will be available to talk to.

as you said in your 2nd post an hour after your 1st you get bored waiting...sadly most OR's offices are drowning in the workload at the moment so emails and phone messages are taking longer than the usual timescale allowed...

nothing to stop you going into the office in person to see what they say, I did the same a while ago with the liverpool office & they were always happy to help...they may not issue something straight away but least you can get things moving

Thanks, i've decided i'm going to pop in tomorrow. I really don't mind if they say it'll take a few weeks to be done, I just want to know that its on someones "to do" list.
