Car insurance risk areas

My father-in-law has just tried to re-insure his car. His renewal premium with last years company has risen by 150%. His no claims bonus is still intact. The company says it is because he lives in a high risk area. He has lived in the same area for over 30 years. Can this be right? Can the area change so much in 12 months?

don't know but it doesn't really matter as where he lives is something he can't really change.
All he can realistically do is shop around, the main site has a good article on how to get the best out of the system0 -
Shop around, renewals of 100% extra are becoming the norm, but are usually easily bettered by moving insurers.0
