Opinion on house survey comment confusion

First of all I am not a surveyor. As I understand this the op's survey has suggested that there has been past settlement which is common in buildings. In other words there has been subsidence (because that is what foundation movement is) but that it is no longer ongoing or progressive. It is past settlement.
They are not the same thing and not to be confused. You're nearly there but settlement is not subsidence. They are different words for different things. One is normal, one is not.
Mention settlement to a call centre bod and they won't get that either though. There seems to be as much underwriting knowledge in an insurance call centre as there is in the outside world.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

For some graphic examples of proper cracks type "subsidence" into Google Image search.

If you've got a few hairline cracks on internal walls then it's probably just from the plaster drying out and/or the house "breathing" (was it newly redecorated when you bought it?) - IMO nothing to worry about and not worth mentioning to the insurance companies.0
