Your message to xx was blocked, because it wasn't sent from your registered email??

Options
I have received this messae after contacting the problem seller. Could anyone shed any light as to what on earth this means. I replied to the buyer's message from my ebay account so have no idea why I have received this message?

Dear xx,

Oops. We weren't able to send your message to buyer, because the email address you used to send this message, xxxx, isn't linked to your eBay account.

To keep eBay safe, we need you to send messages from a registered eBay email address. This will prevent your messages from being blocked in the future. This is easy enough to fix, just do one of the following:
  • Set up xx as an additional email address for sending messages. To do this:
    • In My eBay, click the "Account" tab and then click "Communication Preferences" in the drop-down menu.
    • In the section titled "Delivery Options", click "Show" next to "Notification Delivery Format".
    • Enter the same email address to send member-to-member messages.
    • Click Save.
I have never had a problem sending messages from my account and cant understand why I have this message. I have checked and it doesn't seem my account has been hacked in any way. Should I be worried.

The email used was completely alien to me, was a foreign name which I had never seen before.

I'm not sure what to do, please could someone help as I am slightly worried!

Sounds like a phishing email to me, don't click on any links and don't update the email address from it.

A genuine email (I had one earlier today) would be addressed to your user id. Not sure what you'd need to do if it was genuine though.

It was to my user id (edited out here for security reasons) and
failurenotice@members.ebay.com was the email it came from.

The email looks official, I can't understand why my ebay was trying to send messages through an unknown email. I haven't a clue how to go about dealing with this?

I wonder if this is related to the problems I had logging into ebay on Tuesday, everytime I went to try to list an item it looped me to login everytime I clicked onto the sell option.

It would be impossible to be a phishing email as its only telling you to click on things within ebay, and not on any external links or websites.

Ok after a little digging the address that my ebay seems to be telling me I am trying to email from is the email address of the person I have had problems with.

It all seems a bit odd...

Sounds like the person you are dealing with is replying to the message you have sent him, but is somehow replying to their own part of the message so Ebay messages thinks it is an attempt from you (that should make sense!).

I got this message recently when I tried to reply to a message. It was because of the way my email was set up with multiple addresses. My email address changed but I was still able to receive messages on the old address (the one used for Ebay). However all outgoing messages defaulted to the new email address, which wasn't recognised by Ebay.

I don't know what caused it here but it doesn't sound like phishing.
