Evening,

Hoping someone on here can help me. About a year ago I moved into the house I rent now (private let). I got the electric changed to my name, and tried to get the gas, but it got rejected as they couldnt find the gas meter number. I know I should have chased it up, but I wasnt in a great place, full time job, single mum it just got put on my never ending to do list!

Anyway, trying to sort through everything, I was under the impressing SE supplied it as they did the electric. Tried again to get it transfered with no luck, they phone the national grid, nothing recorded at the address. I phone Transco, who have nothing registered at the address and just tell me to choose any supplier!

I dont know to tell the landlord, or just leave it! Help!

Make sure you keep opening and closing readings and put the money aside in an account

All I can suggest is try National Grid again, (Transco don't exist anymore, National Grid is the company you want).

The right number to speak to them on is 0870 608 1524. If they can't find anything at your address maybe you have a complicated address that might be different on their database; maybe you live in a flat, or your property has a name instead of a number, something like that? Get them to try different variations.
  • It's the landlord's duty to provide you with details of your energy suppliers. Write a letter to him/her explaining the situation and asking that it be rectified asap. You shouldn't be doing the chasing, they should.

when I moved in he just said it was with SE, but clearly not as there is no supplier registered, well theres seems to not even be a meter registered! I'm wondering if infact the next door neighbour is paying for it as the house was built on her land originally. There has been tenants here before me, so i'm guessing no one has paid for any gas, otherwise it should be registered somewhere!
