Another guide for this scam

Note that it seems to rename itself depending on which operating system you have.

Managed to clear it I think!
I downloaded malewarebytes from another pc and burned a cd. Put that in the laptop and run it and deleted the virus.
Run Malwarebytes, Avast and Windows Defender all were clear with no infected items.
But at the bottom of the screen to the right we have a box - Blocked Start Up Programs. The folowing are saying not yet classified - Are these anything to worry about?
Cyberlink Corp - Power DVD
Supportsoft Inc - Supportsoft sprtcmd
Silicon Integrated Systems Corporation - SISTray
C&E - osd Application
Publisher Not available - When I highlight this one it appears to be a Yahoo file named searchprotection.exe
Any advise much appreciated.
Thank you.0 -
Was malwarebytes UPDATED and run with a FULL scan?
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
If you get a message that you cant write to the hosts file then Press the SHIFT key, and whilst holding it RIGHT CLICK and select RUN AS (admin):idea:0 -
Thank you aliEnRIK your help is very much appreciated.

Thank you once again.

Thanks aliEnRIK much appreciated. I will remove the Yahoo bits.
OsdService.exe - Not sure what it is, but a serch on the internet seems to suggest is a genuine windows file but can be maleware disguised as that file.0 -
Might also be worth updating Internet Explorer to 8 or 9 as they are more secure.0

Its not a standard service - so clearly not needed for windows to run. Id recommend setting a restore point, then disabling the service:idea:0
