Has anyone bought the new Lexus CT200h? Does it offer anything above the Toyota Prius / Auris? Opinions plse.
I'm planning to take a test drive soon, having been amazed at the fuel economy. The Golf TDi Bluemotion was my alternative choice, but it feels like a lot of money for a car with such a basic interior. I'm happy to spend more on a luxury vehicle if it does genuinely offer better value for money!

Its just a prius really with a few more gadgets and gizmos and bit more refinement and luxury if you can wait a while before trading in there should be a IS hybrid coming out soon according to Lexus that should match the passat bluemotion if not the golf in terms of mpg and has a larger cabin that doesnt feel as cramped.0

I'm also interested in a hybrid but the reviews of the Lexus are not that good and it does seem to be not worth the extra price.
I was hopefull of the Jazz hybrid but again the reviews are poor.
As far as I know the only new small car hybrid due in the next 12 months was supposed to be the new Toyota Yaris, but I'm wondering if the events in Japan will have put that back.Waddle you do eh?0 -
The rear of the 200h looks like it belongs to a different car.

Dont forget you can get 'Bluemotion Tech' on most Golfs now, so you dont have to go for the somewhat basic 'Bluemotion' model itself.
I think there is a test of the CT200h v Audi v BMW 1 series v Golf Bluemotion in What Car? this month and the Golf won by a mile.
Will look it up again when i get home0 -
The press don't like it at all it seems, see here - Lexus CT200h reviews
Their main issue is the ride and the fact, as already said, that a diesel engine can get more mpg while also being cheaper to buy in the first place. Will be interested to see what miles per gallone users actually get.0 -
I liked the look of the lexus but not the price tag, I do however have the Golf BM(full not BM technology), the car can be had for about £17.5k and the interior isn't that bad at all, it depends on what you want and what you're willing to pay for extra's too, I took very little but included the centre console, leather steering wheel/gear knob/handbrake, upgraded stereo to 510(6 cd changer) and metallic paint took my car on order to about £19K.
The Audi A1 (based on VW Polo) is supposed to be much better interior than the VW's and may be worth looking at.
I also thought the lexus looking a bit like the Auris rather than the Prius, talking of which I'd probably pay the money more for the Prius than the Lexus, check out the costs of servicing at the Lexus dealership.
Let us know how you get on.Thanks to all the competition posters.0 -
I was looking for a hybrid, and test drove the prius, then the auris, then the CT200h. I bought the ct200h. It is just an absolutely stunningly luxurious car next to the prius, and makes the prius feel cheap and silly in comparison.
I went for the mid range model to get satnav and leather seats. I don't regret a single penny of the cost. They are also very very hard to get hold of now, due to both supply problems (tsunami) and very high demand.
don't judge the ct200h until youve driven one, they are fantastic.
I average about 54 mpg so far, but I live somewhere fairly hilly with little traffic so the hybridness isn't really kicking in like it would on a city commute.0 -
the car looks like a toned down version of the 2009 subaru impreza hatch witch looked a bit like a dogs dinner (no offence if you own one its just that its nothing special to look at)0

Well opinions vary. I love the look of it. I dont think its designed for people who want to be gawped at. For the same money you can buy a shiny plasticky sporty looking thing.0

I'm holding out for this 175 mpg problem solver http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/vehicles/future-models-and-concepts/ampera/highlights/benefits.html0
