medical points for council housing?

Have you tried the various Housing Associations around the area? I don't know if someone was telling me because they had to, or trying to drop a hint, but they suggested that to me when I said I might need to look for somewhere in the near future.
I am out of touch with Allocations and Voids and the like within LA's but can someone confirm or deny that points systems vary from LA area to LA area? I suspect that x points in one area would get you housed, yet x points somewhere else gets you nowt.

A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

have had the letter after seeing housing outreach worker saying we have 30 points due to situ and in priority 1,but 3 bed houses tend to go for 50 points plus! Even if become homeless will have to go into a womens hostel, apart from partner but with kids for a few days, then council give you 40 points, meanwhile (this could be a few months) u are put in tempory accom, high rised somewere miles from kids schools. Then the council hold back 10% of housing stock, in the most unpoplar areras, and offer u one of them, u have to accept or points gone!(even though there not enough to win a house bid!)
Any help welcome x
Hayley, your post reminded me of the BBC programme 'Evicted' on last night. I had no idea so many children are currently living in temporary accommodation - I was shocked. 5 people sharing one room in a B&B with no cooking facilities and a shared bathroom - absolutely scandalous, especially when it's the council's fault for 'accidentally' evicting them. This one particular family had been told they'd made themselves intentionally homeless (they hadn't - council messed up their HB) so they could go take a running jump as far as the council were concerned. They helpfully told said family that they can 'call social services' if they're worried about their children - so they end up in care. There was one poor teenage girl whose dinner consisted of a tin of beans that had been left on the radiator for a few hours - brought tears to my eyesWhat a sad, sad situation.
I find it incredibly shocking that there are so many people without a place to call home in 21st century Britain - the documentary stated that there were over a million people last year in temporary accommodation  Shameful.0 -

Bob, local authorities vary in their allocations system. The trend is moving away from a points based system. Some local authorities still use this but in many areas and it is increasing, they are using what is called a lettings based system. Basically this is where if you are in priority need you are given priority status. Properties are advertised on a central system and you 'bid'. You are not allocated points but are either priority or non priority. People with priority are pushed up the list to allow them a quicker route to rehousing. For example in Bradford, it is a lettings based system. Properties are advertised, applicants bid and whoever has been registered the longest who bids for a specific property get first refusal (dependant on whether they are applicable for the property i.e. if an 18 yr old bids for a property for people over 55 they wouldn't be considered). If someone has priority for rehousing (because they are homeless and in priority need) they get four bids rather than two and get pushed towards the top of the list. With Leeds council there is a bidding system (I think, correct me if I am wrong) but there is priority and priority extra. No idea how this works but there is obviously a difference.
Hope that goes some way to explaining things!"I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0 -
