I am so angry!
I ordered a new bed base from Additions a couple of weeks ago. They contacted me on Thursday night, saying they wanted to delivery today, and I told them that we couldn't accept it today, as we're both at work. I asked if they could give me a call back in a couple of days time to re-arrange so I could discuss with my partner when he was going to be on rest days. They said I'd have to call them back, so there was a little banter between the 2 of us as I said that I wasn't going to call them back, but they could call me.
This morning, I received a phone call from a driver saying they were at our house, trying to deliver a bed but we weren't there. I told him that we'd said we couldn't accept delivery today and that I was waiting for a call-back to re-arrange delivery. He said 'well, what are we going to do?', so I suggested he take it up with Additions, as we'd categorically said we couldn't accept delivery today.
My partner's just got back from work, only to find out that they've delivered it to a house 4 days away from us. He's had to take the 4 boxes (it's a king size bed with a lifting base on it) back to our house, and we've got nowhere to put it!
I've spoken to Additions, who've told me someone will call me back in the next 5 days, and have arranged for it to be collected on Wednesday. In the meantime, we'll have to put it in our (already full) garage.
I'm absolutely furious - tried to phone the driver that rang this morning, but suprisingly, his phone is switched off.

Why do they need to collect it?
I'm confused. You ordered a new bed base but don't have room for it?0 -
I'm confused as well. So they delivered a bed that you had ordered, albeit on a date that you didn't want. So now you want them to come and collect it and then will go through the whole rigmarole of arranging a date when you are in to get it delivered again?
I can understand your frustration of them delivering it when you specifically asked them not to but its here now, why can't you just keep it?

We wanted to have time to dismantle the old bed base so that we could accept the new bed base and assemble it.
It's downright rude and highly unprofessional to deliver it to a house 4 doors away, when I'd not arranged for the delivery and for my partner to have to carry the boxes himself to our house.0 -

TBH, this "They said I'd have to call them back, so there was a little banter between the 2 of us as I said that I wasn't going to call them back" was probably the start of your problems... Why are you so awkward?! First you argue about who's going to call whom when, frankly, I'd wouldn't care less - I'd just want to get it sorted. Then you expect them to come and get it because you've not got round to taking apart the old one. A job that will take.... ooh, half hour tops?! Plus... it's not like you've got nowhere to put it. It's in the garage until you can be bothered to get your screwdriver out.
Most people are happy to receive things earlier than expected and look on their good fortune as a bonus. Sorry, but you sound like a right nightmare.
How am I a nightmare? They rang to arrange a delivery for yesterday and I told them that we couldn't take the delivery thenas we were both at work. I asked them to call back, to reschedule so that in the meantime, I could speak to my partner and find out what shifts he's working this week. They didn't call back and they delivered yesterday regardless, even though it's not been agreed, and leave the 4 big boxes at a neighbours house 4 doors down. That's totally unacceptable.0 -
It's more the general demeanour. You're 'so angry'. They're 'downright rude and highly unprofessional'. You told them you weren't 'going to call them back'. To me, you appear demanding and inflexible, perhaps you're not, but your post suggests so. Your anger seems a rather extreme reaction to actually receiving the goods you ordered, albeit earlier than anticipated. If they'd have been late, no doubt you'd have been complaining about that instead. The world's not organised at your convenience, sometimes things happen that don't go exactly to plan. Asking them to collect and redeliver simply doesn't make sense. I think it's the illogicality that's troubling me the most. You need a bed every night, therefore you can't actually dismantle the old one until the day the new one arrives. So.... they take away the bed, arrange to deliver, say, in two weeks time (again you'll have to make sure someone's in to take delivery), and then on that day you'll have to dismantle the old bed. Seems a lot of hassle for a bed that.... hmm, you already have! My suggestion would be... dismantle the old bed today. Assemble new bed today. Solves every single one of your problems
Of course they should have phoned to re-arrange delivery. But they didn't. So now you have the bed. I'm not sure there're many posters on here who'd say "OP, I'll tell you what to do. Here's my consumer advice. Send back the bed and arrange redelivery. That's the sensible thing to do"."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

yes its a pain they have delivered before you have had chance to dismantle the old 1, all you need to do is dismantle the bed earlier than what you planned and assemble the new 1,
it would cause more problems if you ask for the new 1 to be picked up and redelivered when you have dismantled the old 10 -
To save the trouble of having two bed bases I simply got rid of the old one a few days before the new one arrived. I slept on the mattress on the floor for a few days.0

I still think that they were completely wrong in delivering the bed to a neighbour, but perhaps my tone was wrong!
It's not a straighforward 'let's put it in the bedroom base' as it's one of those beds that the top lifts off on hydraulics for storage space underneath, so will probably take a while to assemble. As we have a 20 month old child, we were going to arrange for her to go her childminder instead of my partner looking after her on his rest days so he could take the old one apart and assemble the new one.
Of course, we can still do this, but in the meantime, we have 4 very large boxes in our hallway as they were too big to put in the garage.0 -

That's what I thought too.Seems they are peeved that there instructions weren't followed and are trying to prove a point over it, cutting their nose off to spite their face in the process.
The drivers delivering it will have had no clue about any conversation previous to them loading it on their van.If its not delivered they would have to work around it all day, its effectively blocking in their next deliveries.Finding a neighbour willing to take in something so big was a good effort on their part and very good of the neighbour too.0
