I was hoping that you lovely people may have some experience of this, could you advise me whether the hours are long, and roughly what i can expect to earn? I know these are questions I can ask on the day, but i wouldnt mind knowing the answers in advance;)

Only a council would come up with a job called Celebratory Officer!! What on earth does this job entail?

I can tell you from experience that Council non-jobs usually consist of surfing the internet all day long and wondering why nobody disciplines you for it, banging your head off every available brick wall, marvelling at the salaries of stupid people and wondering how you can be paid so much, to do so little, and yet still hate it passionately.
I'll have some cheese please, bob.

Celebratory Officer. That is the most stupid job title I've ever seen. Only a council HR department could come up with such a stupid job title. It's essentially a trainee registrar - "Following appointment you will be trained to register civil marriages and civil partnerships."

The answers to all those questions are in the recruitment pack, which is the second link if you Google "Celebratory Officer". Bizarrely this thread is the first result, although with such a stupid job title, it's not surprising.

    It really isn't.

The amusing part is this: Kent Registration Service is looking for Celebratory Officers to conduct their diverse range of civil ceremonies, these include marriages, partnerships, renewal of vows, welcomings and funerals.

    Celebratory Funerals!!!

In other words you will be a registrar.

Expect to work some strange hours including weekends because you are likely to be asked to marry people in licensed venues (not churches) other than the registry office.

I don't think thar registrars conduct funerals although they do deal with death certificates that people lodge at the registry office.
