:) Back in the day when they used to have coal, Mum and Dad would buy some of it during the summer, as if they waited until winter to buy it as it was being used, the budget wouldn't stretch to all which was needed.

My folks used to buy their coal and coke in the summer after a long dry spell as it was sold by weight and the wet fuel weighed more than dry. They would buy as many hundredweight of coal as they could store. x

Have been back down the garden chopping weeds and brambles today.
    The ground is rock hard.
We have rhubarb ,berries,a cherry tree and strawbs all with the beginnings of fruit but nothing any where near eating except the rhubarb.

Sammykay our HV was exactly the same and I promptly made an appointment with my doctor who checked our DD over and said she was perfectly healthy. I don't know if yours is associated with your doctors surgery but if she is,it might be worth mentioning that she is not very tactful with her comments or advice and you found it upsetting.

Silence is a new experience to a lot of people and I have seen peeps get scared/get tearful/etc the first time they tried to get used to the idea of Silence in our noisy world.

Me - I can sit there and think "Total absolute silence - not one single sound - WOW:D" because I've learnt how to appreciate it and that silence is when all the best ideas come. Well - that and when I'm just falling asleep or have woken up with my mind racing in the middle of the night.....

Silence is very valuable indeed in my experience - so good on you for moving towards trying it out for size..

    ************

As regards trying out for size - errr....well...my little mini-shock (and added expense) for the evening was going onto Amazon for a coupla books I've been promising myself and finding that one of the subjects that particularly interests me (ie use of herbs) has an apparently well-known and authoritative tome written by *********** (my ancestral surname):cool:_pale_:idea::think:. Hmmm:cool:.....and I added it to my order....

Wonders if we are related in some sorta way maybes...?. Anyways - gotta keep things in t'family (errr...maybe...errr...) - so my next bill from Amazon has got a few extra £s on it..

    FTM thats sad news :(
I have often contemplated not having a tv at all but I am afraid I love settling down to watch a good movie so for that reason I have never taken the plunge..but do switch it off often because the kids seem to switch it on out of habit, they dont watch that much tbh ,just seems they like the noise! I prefer quiet :D
I went to pick up dds netbook from the repair shop today as it got a virus during the hols. It was £25 for the repair..got it home and its not been repaired !!! So I phoned them straight away and they appologised and I have to take it back. I am just as annoyed about having to trail to the next town -to the shop(petrol etc!) as I am about it not being done plus the complete waste of my precious time-not a happy bunny at all. I shall not be going there again once it is hopefully sorted:(

Rather chilly here today, potted on some veggies, they seem to be doing better now. Think I may have overdone it with the pumpkins and squashes but I can always put them on freecycle if I manage to grow too many! Got about 25 ornamental cabbages so am hoping to take some to the donkey sanctuary summer fayre. Made myself a very pretty shopping bag with some Cath Kidston type fabric that I got as a remnant from Dunelm,2.00 and enough for 2 bags.

Other than that still pinching, the pennies that is :) and trying to make lots of stuff from scratch. Hugs to all in need and hope Mardatha conquers her new pooter soon!

Ceridwen..thank you for that..i am sat here in total silence..i can hear my clock ticking and am finding that comforting..it sounds silly doesn't it..but i think i will get used to it...silence is golden sang the tremeloes..
Wonder if your related to the author..that would be interesting to find out.Cripes our family name is quite infamous..especially seeing as the most famous one had a habit of chopping his wives heads off..you know who i mean..and my FIL dad was a very rich land owner..so you never know,lol...
Bertiebots..thats awful..you should ask for your money back..or at least a discount..cheeky beggars
Ginnyknit..well done on growing so many..i love CK fabric..can't afford it so i get CKish fabric and make little bits for tots and myself
Think i have cracked it with the nettle tea..1tsp nettles, hot water,2tsps medlar jelly...tastes amazing and doesn't smell bad either.
