Hi all, Ive had to stop batch cooking and baking as I have no room in the freezers, so we shall eat it all and I will get on with cleaning!
Need a new mop today as the other one fell to bits!Trying to shift that debt!0 -
Trifles, thank you for a lovely post. Yes you are right our sense of humour here does help a great deal, OH says when his goes he wants shooting!
GQ I am still shell shocked from walking into M&S at whoopsie time a few months ago. I didnt know it was the time they did it, I just went to pick something up - OMG those old posh ladies are nasty and armed with wire baskets they could take an eye out! I retreated quicklyI hope I don't get like that!
I would hate to be in business now, its hell out there. It was bad enough working for a charity just as the recession started the pressure was awful but at least I knew, within reason, that I would get paid. Now it seems to be the survival of the fastest - ie those who can run away when they should pay! I just hope your strategy works Haribo.
I am proud of myself today, I went to the dentist, on my own and had an extraction. Its taken me 30 years to find a great dentist who understood my fears were not a phobia but from an event in my life. It still bloomin hurts but I did it:j

I don't mind the dentist at all - its a lot better than toothache
Odd peeks of sun here today, checked my onions that I thought would be rotten with all th rain but theyre ok. Bit small yet. Tatties have one flower on one plant whoohoo! Buddleia not flowered at all yet, lilac in full bloom now. Very odd year for growing things.
Got all excited by talk in an American forum about living without elect like the Amish... but their idea of "without elect" seems to mean having a humungous great generator LOL!0 -
The Americans consider it a bonus if they get 'off the grid' don't they but they still have to power the generator! Thus still buying into the taxed fuel supplies, unless they use animal pooh and make methane ? Is that do-able ? like in the Good Life.Clearing the junk to travel light

Hello folks,
I'm sitting here working at home keeping an eye out of the window as it is definitely looking like rain soon and I've got the washing outside.
I've not been posting much as I don't think I've really got much worth sharing at the moment. I'm enjoying (wrong word: finding thought provoking is probably better) the discussion about the current economic situation. I do wonder what to do for the best. On the one hand it makes me want to hunker down, grow my own stuff etc, but on the other hand that seems like an inadequate response for such a huge problem.
Focusing on what I like best - cooking, I've got a couple of questions: First, Kittie are you there? Which was your favourite filling for the tear and share chelsea bun things? I've got some enriched dough in the BM and have promised OH a treat for tackling the massive hedge down the side of the garden, but I can't decide what to put in the middle.
Second: Has anyone got any hints or tips for making pearl barley risotto? I was going to just make a normal risotto (mushroom and mange-tout), but then I remembered I'd got some pearl barley. Do I just use the same quantities (of water and grain) or anything I should do differently?
Thank you - and I hope everyone is having a good day.0 -
