If the money pages in the media are to be believed there seems a risk that not only the PIGS may default but the USA also. Some say it will make the great crash of 1929 look like a picnic. So, in the event of no jobs or pensions what should we all be doing? Stockpiling baked beans, learning to sew? I have already added extra tins to my weekly shopping list. And am looking at the Incredibe Edible websites, where people grow community veg. other ideas please, especally ideas about cheap OS home insulation as I think we wont be able to afford much heating in the future.

Scottishminnie - could you clean spring onions like leeks? Slice them lengthways rather than across the stem, just half way through, fan them out, rinse them and then chop the long "slices" into eatable lengths?

That's what I've resorted to - along with blowing the dirt out, much to my hubby's amusement.

Shegar - no don't mind you asking at all - in a village just west of Ipswich. East Suffolk and the coast is really lovely - I go over there several times a year and once had a tour of the reactor. Politics aside, it was absolutely fascinating. But best of all over your way is the fish and chips at Dunwich :T

great, I'll give that a try next. If the recipe was for 8 ounces of plain flour and a half teaspoon of baking powder would you use 8 oz of SR flour and a pinch of baking powder?

Had a mini MSE meet with Smileyt( bit of an impromptu get together - last minute reprieve from caring for me) and it was lovely to spend time with someone (like all of you) who gets where I am coming from, we put the world to rights over a cuppa. Then it was off to Abhakan and though we were both very tempted we were good and I just bought what I needed.

Manchester city centre is not the wonderful place it used to be, you have to walk miles to find a loo for one thing. It seems its an awful lot of walking to get what you want.

I made use of an all day bus ticket and went to pick DGS up from his childminder as Dd was working late. I think I probably got 10.00 in value from a 3.70 ticket, which pleased me.

Tomorow have the dentist then must get down to a big bake in and am going to try the onion hummous from the weezl thread. Im hoping it good cos I love hummous.

Im getting very concerned about the future too I think we have more shocks to come, this government haven't finished squeezing yet. So as there is still space under my bed its tomatoes for me :rotfl: to go with the loo rolls and anything else i can push under there. We are the ones who will be laughing come the revolution :j

I'm a serial lurker for the most part, but felt I had to post in defence of "Wally Trollies". I have a Typhoon shopping trolley and it's very modern and funky looking. .

I also have a Wally Trolley. A Rolser. It's shocking pink and I have Hotter shoes to match. No one has dared to laugh yet, even my offspring, but I've had quite a few compliments while out with it. I have got so used to it that it when someone remarks on it I have to stop for a moment before I realise what they're talking about. :rotfl: Ah, the joys of old(ish) age. When I am old I will wear shocking pink....
