Charlie's Aunt - I too am very sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis and can empathise; I had the same diagnosis aged 19 when DD was 5 months old. As others have said, there are many degrees of the condition. I am probably one of the luckiest people around as after the onset, where the symptoms lasted for several months, and a further, much less severe flare up a few months later after a short remission, I have had no further signs of the condition for 38 years!
I wish you all the best in dealing with it - keep strong!
  • Morning all.

LarumbellaL I am so please things have been sorted at work and agree with the poster who said the probably took legal advice and realise they were totally out of orfer. Glad you are enjoying work agbain.

Charlies Aunt now you know what your health issues are you can begin to plan how to deal with it and what your treatment options are. You know were we are if yoiu need to off load.

Well so much for my last post saying that I needed to get on here more often. My poor old nan has been admitted to hospital with several medical problems and boy has it upset her alzheimers. Luckily I work in the same hospital so have been able to spend a lot of time with her especially trying to calm her and get her to eat, drink and take her medication (my immediate boss is very understanding). I hope they will discharge her on Monday because the sooner she is back in familiar surroundings the better. Have had to deal with the strange internal wrangelings that go on in my family and some of them not wanting to visit her when others are there because they don't speak. I thought s*d it in the end and just concentrated on nan and her never ending washing and left them to sort themselves out. Very non MSE thisweek as I have had to use the tumble dryer to keep on top of nans laundry. I know it would have been easier to use hospital things but she gets upset if she thinks she is wearing something that is not hers.

Have not been very organised at home with being with nan at each meal time. I am having a break from it today and cooking the family a roast lamb dinner with woopsie lamb, the veg will be from the garden. I am hoping thhis will cheer OH up a bit because his "black dog" is restless at the moment (probably due to the amount of time he has had on his hands this week when I have not been around).

On a more cheerful note I have now managed to loose 7lbs in the last three weeks:T after joining a shape up club at work. It is only for 10 weeks but it seems to be giving me the kick start that I needed.

Will be going to burn a few calories on the allotment later today and need to do a bit of work on the veges in the home garden.

Does anyone have any idea how I can preserve beetroot. My attemps at pickelng beetroot are very hit and miss and mine is ready to harvest.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

Just popping on quickly to welcome back weeze and wish you every success.

Am off to DIsability awareness day today - but my toothache is back, thankfully I have some painkillers left from last time and they appear to be holding as it were.:)

GQ - there are many days when it feels like i have a dozen kids!!

Tomato plants are showing lots of small flowers and buds now too, which is very exciting.

Having a house warming do at end of month and was planning on throwing a big pan of something like chilli/curry and some desserts but my friend says house warmings dont usually include food, anyone have any advice?
  • Finally caught up on the thread again:D
Ceridwen, if there are any trees in the area and especially if they have ivy on them I'd recommend bats:D Bats are very difficult to see or find and generally their droppings are excepted as proof of their presence... nuff said. Actually I do wonder? If someone put up bat boxes in trees and bats took up residence would that be the same as bats roosting in the trees themselves?
I believe that there is one person who is licensed to sell Great Crested Newt eggs but only to people who have a suitable sheltered habitat such as a garden pond. Someone over on the grow your own foru had some.

Another topic altogether: about foraging. I've noticed that there are a fair number of apple trees along various highways and was wondering if anyone ever managed to pick them?
Hugs and good wishes to everyone who needs them:)
I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly :D

:)Mrs Veg Plot, this is a recipe from a friend, haven't made it personally but have eaten it nomnomnom.

    Beetroot Relish

750g fresh beetroot, peeled and coarsely chopped
    1 onion, chopped
400 g green apples, peeled ,cored and chopped
    410 ml white wine vinegar
    2 tbsp lemon juice
    125g granulated sugar
    95g lightly-packed soft brown sugar.

    Method:

Ingredients plus 2 teaspoons salt in a large pan and stir over a low heat without boiling until all the sugar has dissolved.

Bring to boil and boil, whilst stirring, for 20-30 mins or until the beetroot and onion are tender and the relish is reduced and thickened.

Spoon immediately onto clean, warm jars and seal. Turn upside down for 2 mins then invert and leave to cool. Label and date; leave for 1 month to allow the flavours to develop. Stores for a year in a cool dark place unopened, otherwise refrigerate after opening and consume within 6 weeks.

    :) HTH

kidkat every single housewarming I've ever come across has involved food of some description, the kind depending on what time of day it is; everything from plates of cakes to a full-on buffet. Your idea sounds great. I always think it's hard to go wrong with a big pot of veggie chili and baked spuds; simple and filling and not to dear to make. Or chili and potato salad if you think baked spuds are a bit too warming for the time of year. Some grated cheese to sprinkle, bit of cheap hooch plus a couple of choices of soft drinks for the kiddies and designated drivers and bob's your uncle.

;) I find that hearty simple cooking has a lot of fans.

I'm now going to the lottie after lunch as am riding shotgun on some batch cooking and a monster beetroot in the pan.

Slightly off subject but still about land... Does anyone know..pretty please

We have a small patch of land at the end of our road that belongs to the company DH bought our house off. This land has been left to its own devices for 11 years. DH has rang them to see if we can use it to grow some veg on but they do not know who has the authority to deal with this. The council say they are not responsible and so we have come to a dead end. There is a small strip of land that is now filled with lovely blackberries. But the small square of land would be great for growing this and would be cared for. Does anyone know the rules on this? Would we be arrested for growing with intent:rotfl: The people we have spoken to who own the land have said they can not see a problem however they still do not know who can give permission so we would have nothing in writing. We have cut the grass for 11 years (so the boys could play footie when too young to go to the park) Just wondered if anyone knew what we could do next?

paidinchickens - if my memory serves me there is some kind of rule that if you maintain a piece of land by grass cutting etc over a period of time then you can claim it, not sure the time frame but definitely worth looking into.

I believe the time frame is 7 years...a bit like access over land. But I think there is a Legal Eagle on here who will know for sure. I would certainly lay it to veg and see what happens.

I just wanted to share some news. Freecycle has come up trumps. I have all the attachments ( mincer, food processor) etc for my Kenwood!!!! How flipping chuffed am I? They are for an older model but they fit mine and I am well happy! Lucky, lucky Red :D

Does anybody in here know if you can buy replacement paddles or pans for the Panasonic 255?
