Hope things work out well for your mother.((( )))

Cancer is something we all worry about will happen to us - think the chances in this country are 1 in 3 that it will:eek:. So - one way or another none of us are likely to get through life without either getting it ourselves or having someone close to us get it.

It was reassuring to read that comment from the oncologist re cancer (of itself) seldom hurting - as that means I feel a lot less concerned in case for myself - as I would personally never use any conventional treatment for it if I ever got it. It would be alternative treatment all the way or just shrug my shoulders for me personally (as long as I had been around long enough to keep a daughterly eye on my mother for however long she needs it).

Re the sprouted seeds - to my recollection its Thompson & Morgan ones that are a bit "risky" at present. I just thought "No problem - I dont buy things sold as specifically for sprouting anyway". I just buy the type of things that can also be sprouted if wanted - eg organic packets of mung beans, chickpeas, etc meant for cooking with and sprout them.

My next sprouting adventures are I'm planning to buy some unshelled monkey nuts and have a go at sprouting them (having read of someone having done so and saying how nice they were). I have no idea whether I will even like them - but ..hey...if I dont..then I'll just use the rest for another experiment (ie making my own peanut butter).

    ******************

On a lighter note - this COULD only be a British thread - with all our regional language/slightly archaic British words/cultural reference points. Howsomever - some might disagree perchance...:rotfl:

Stripped the last of the plums from the tree and made some more jam, so thats 18 jars of jam in total, lovely lower sugar, soft set and so fruity its just out of this world.

I also made 24 portions of plum sponge for the the freezer so we can eat something homegrown in the depths of winter, with some good old fashioned custard. All it cost was the few bags of sugar!

The lettuces are going great guns, the green beans have started to climb heavenwards and the grape vine is heaving with blossom so I think I need to prune it a little to make the grapes a little bit bigger.

I'm loving all this free food. It's not a lot compared to some gardens but its ours and its stuff that we will actually eat so its a saving - and I just remembered the spuds in the bag are going great with lots of foliage. There are a couple of flowers on them so I need to think about how much longer they can stay in there. I think you need to let the foliage die back a bit after the flowers go but not sure, need to be a bit of googling I think.

Anyway, off to the market now to see if I can bag some bargains.
:hello:  please play nicely children !

You can use instant mashed potato to thicken things. Its an old Slimming World trick and works well.

    OK who mentioned sales?????:mad::D

You reminded me to check the Joe Brown's sale and now i've spent £30!! It was stuff i've kept my eye on for a while tho and all was 70% of normal price.

    On another note..

So there i am proudly boasting that i have only used the tumble drier once since easter and DS comes down to say he has no trousers to wear as he cleared them from "floordrobe" to laundry basket without checking what was clean, and so they all went in the wash. So i have to hoik the thinnest pair out of the, thankfully finished, washing machine and tumble them on their own to dry them. Amazingly they were dry in 20 mins! And now he's gone off to school in the rain, and they'll get wet again. :rotfl:

I was going to go running but i ain't going out in this.

We are splashing out on a meal out tonight as OH has a meeting on tuesday with his boss "and the bloke that's always there when people get made redundant". We have been here many times before and it comes to nothing but on the basis that it might be right one day, we'll make the most of being able to go out today.

    Have a good day all

GQ it is probably not a cold. I used to get told this rhyme: A cold will last a week untreated and seven days if treated.

Anything longer is not a cold and needs a doctor. It may be some other virus but watch out for the beginnings of a chest infection and take care of yourself.

Hugs for all those with health problems or those of loved ones.

    babyblooz -

My plums are still little green things as yet. Are you early or are we late or do you live somewhere with a better climate than me?

JackieG & GreyQueen - thinking of your families xx

Veggie box delivery today - arrived with a free wholemeal loaf - yum - have just had some thinly sliced and toasted with butter and marmalade for breakfast.

We have 3 trees in the garden which need to go (too big) - have someone coming to chainsaw them down today (OH will dig stumps up) for free - they get the wood (no use to me) - result :D:D

Was rainy here loads in the night and first thing - just windy now. Can't hang washing out, though, as line is too close to one of the trees coming down :(

Today is a good day here - OH and I have been batthling black dogs for a while (he'smuch worse than me) Today I am in a positive 'let's get things done' mood - so I'm off of here and going to get on with stuff whilst the mood is there!!! :)

GQ, fingers crossed for mum....and ref the Rohan sale I would give it a week or so as lots of stuff has sold out already! But you could always have a sneaky peak...:D Hopefully my stuff will be coming today. I swear my wardrobe is now made up of most of their stuff, well the casual side anyway. I picked up a set of striders for half price so I am happy.

JackieG - I have no words but you know what I mean. x

    Me? Temptress??? :A

Today I am off to pick up a load of embroidery patterns I won on ebay so looking forward to that.
