You don't have to move everything- just the stuff that they will swoop on!
The containers are to keep it fresher, tastier etc- best not to mention proof against mice, ants etc.

wish you hadn't mentioned the non paying lodgers as we used to call them when kids were little that way they were not quite so scared i think my baking supplies will be 1st closely followed by pasta and cereal

phew that was close youngest just came down for some pepsi wakes her up in mornings can i ask how long will dried food be ok in l&l boxes and would instant hot choc be ok if its a bit over the date i'm ok with most things but if its got milk or egg in like ovaltine then i'm not so sure and i've noone else i can ask thanks got a few of each and some coffee whitener /dried milk powder too i'm forever having to swap lids so they think its got good date but they've nearly thrown the new ones out i just say i'll use it and they look at me weird i've been using up out of date stuff for last 2months and i'm still ok apart from a cold
this moving dried goods would possible save me a lot on my small budget as no more half empty packets left on shelf occasionally we use instant mash shops own when we run out of potatoes or if its late for a quick supper but don't use whole packet from now on i will tip whats left in one of the boxes or jars might even do it with milkshake mix then my son will have to use a mug and a spoon instead of tipping loads into a 4 pint milk carton must remember sneaky is the way to go2nd purse challenge no040£0 Sealed pot challenge ???? £2 trolley find not counting small coins till end year0 -
A friend of mine had picky kids with branded tinned stuff, she removed all the labels from everything and wrote, beans, curry sauce or whatever in felt tip pen on the outside! Not a sell by date in sight.0

According to one person I met once - you stand and look at it and get out a bottle of (rather nice) home-made booze and raise your glasses to it and toast it:rotfl:
That has to be one of the most "interesting" lunches I had - as I recall. I had a lift arranged to an event elsewhere in t'County with someone I'd never met and he rang me up and requested that I make us a shared picnic lunch to eat en route, with a specific request for chocolate cake to be part of it. In return - he provided the (lengthy) lift and that bottle of booze I hadnt expected. 'Twas rather nice in the event and the cake went down a storm (note to those wondering - he only had a token glass of the booze himself - as he was driving...). So "toast the view" me lass.

Many thanks to whomever it was posted on this thread, or one of its earlier incarnations, about cooking pasta by bringing the water to the boil, adding pasta, bringing back to boil, lid on and heat OFF.
I did this last night, set the timer for 10 mins and had perfectly cooked pasta quills. Am dead chuffed, feel like I've won a little prize. Am I sad or am I sad?:rotfl:I have the pasta in a covered bowl in the fridge, stirred thru with a little olive oil and am going to add something different to it each day to make a pasta salad to take to work.
Today's light luncheon will incorporate red and yellow tiny plum tomatoes from the whoopsie box at the greengrocers. Tomorrow's will include bacon bits and then I am a bit stuck......anyone got any el cheapo suggestions to share, pretty please? I can't bellieve the prices they get at the supermarket for tiny little tubs of pasta-and-summat, it's amazing.
The chicken pie was very successful although I went slightly off piste with the recipe suggested up here and bought a mushroom stirfry instead of just mushrooms as it was cheaper and there was more of it. I contemplated tinned mushrooms until I saw that they wanted about £1.50 for a small can....what the heck?!
Anyway, although beansprouts may not be a trad chicken pie ingredient, it all came out very well and I shall have the rest tomorrow. Now I have celery in the house, I'll probably use it as an ingredient for veggie chilli with soya mince and freeze some of it.
The yellow ball is back in it's proper place and the skies are back to pure blue so I shall have to drag my lazy bones up to the lottie after work.I have lots of broad beans...I'm rich, I'm rich!!!
Hope everyone has a great day, shame I've got to go to work, there's some old-styling which needs to be done around here.;)
ChocClare, I know envy is a corrosive emotion but..but...wah, your view is beautiful. I'm looking out onto a carpark, most specifically at the tail end of a Picasso (Citroen kind, unfortunately).Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
