A shame, but it is nature I guess. Just an omelette for tea as I don't fancy anything heavy.
Are you sure it was a crow?:eek::rotfl::rotfl:."Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718

Baby still hanging on in there - boo - we want to met the little feller now.
So got out into the garden this afternoon to take my mind off it - got a bunch of stuff I've been hardening off planted out and some more seeds straight into the ground as well as earthing up the potatoes hich are taking off like mad and a few more plastic greenhouse things planted. Garden is pretty much sorted now and OH knows what needs watering the most for anytime I'm not up to it. Just the courgettes and toms to plant out into their buckets but they need to grow a bit in the green house first. Going to put a couple of courgettes into real earth as well and see which do better.
Right off to go and cook dinner now, my lovely MIL came over today with her next catalogue and instructions to pick a couple of things to look forward to being slim enough to wear in a few weeks and a couple of steaks for a treat. So have had a peruse and seen a couple of lovely pairs of trousers and now I'm going to go and cook the steak with some english asparagus and new potatoes and a small glass of wine for us each as this will be the last grown up dinner for a while! Usually eat with DD but gave her early tea tonight and if her little brother is anything like her I didn't get an uninterupted meal without her deciding to want a feed/change/cuddle half way through half way through for weeks!
Hope you all keeping well.0 -
My downfall is if/when:cool: anything stressful happens I have a tendency to have a glass or two of wine to try and relax and forget the stress incident. That usually works for the purpose - but I'm then annoyed with myself about the calories and cost I've just consumed. So - if anyone has any tips for quick/easy stress relief after a "stress incident" that dont involve said calories/cost I'd be pleased to hear them:)
Popping out of lurkdom to say that a brisk walk, or a furious scrub of the tiles in my bathroom, whilst swearing like a builder about the incident in question usually does the trick for me!Say what you mean.. mean what you say... without being mean.0 -
Got my outfit for forthcoming nephews, sons christening. It sounds like its going to be a fashion show but me and Dd dont have any inclination to join in! Got a very new looking top from Cs , canvas flowery shoes from Mr T and a lovely cardigan 40% from peacocks. Add my favourite black skirt and Im done for less than 20 quid :T
Just been out potting on various veggies. Its funny how my ornamental cabbages are the best looking plants I have grownah well it will look pretty too. Got some growmore from supermarket for 2 pounds, had to give in as everything needed a feed and my nettle brew isn't ready yet. Just get pumpkin plot ready lots of good stuff in there, must remember to pinch out the tip this year cos last year all I had was miles of stem and leaves.
Bargain of the day- a huge Beatrix Potter book for Dgs for a pound, doesnt look like its even been opened. Im sure him and his mummy will be sat everynight reading it.Clearing the junk to travel light

We should sort out some recipes for good filling soups - made from garden veg - to keep warm this winter. Also you can make soup with anything really - old lettuce makes nice stock.
Because you get tired of salads all the time.
your last few posts have been running round my brain during a long wait in the car (hubby went to do an errand ) I am seriously concerned with the lack of rain and what it means to food prices. I too am planting every square inch I can and making a box in the freezer especially for bits of veg to put in soup. I feel like I am at war now that our income has dropped so ridiculously low. I can no longer stock up like I have been used to and don't want to get to the day when the cupboards are bare. Im lucky that Oh understands me and what I do but bearing in mind his fragile state mentally and physically he needs nourishing food. So I am already putting together the nissan hut - metaphorically speaking. Ds will be much better off when her partner takes off at the end of the month and we are working out how we can share the shopping and cooking. Luckily she is a seasoned pennypincher and has Dgs 's clothes sorted for 12 months and is happy with the toys I pick up at the Cs so I have no worries on that score. back to planning and pinching - pennies that isClearing the junk to travel light

Did my weekly shopping today and Country Life butter and Asda's own butter were both 50p a block. I've put a couple in the freezer as the house elf likes making shortbread shapes.0

Don't know if any of you heard today that Cameron was asked directly in PM Question Time about councils' obligation to provide allotments?
It was in an email I received from City Cottage (Home Farmer's online newsletter) - no link, so I'll have to reproduce it here:
"We Won - allotments are safe, or are they?
David Cameron said, today in Prime Minister's Questions, they were not removing the burden on local authorities to provide allotments.
In response to this question by Mike Gapes (Ilford South) (Lab/Co-op): More than 100 years ago, Parliament legislated to make sure that local authorities provided allotments. Healthy local food is a very good part of good British values. Why therefore are the Prime Minister's Government scrapping the obligation on local authorities to provide allotments?
The Prime Minister responded: I was as concerned as the hon. Gentleman when I read that report. I immediately checked, and found that that is not the case. It is extremely important that allotments are made available. Many Members will find that when they ask about that in their constituencies there are massive queues for allotments, as many people want to grow their own vegetables and food and understand more about where food comes from. It is a great movement, and it has my full support.
So it seems this won't happen.
But we keep on hearing about allotments under threat - so the fight goes on. Please send your stories about how your allotments have been put under threat, sold, abused or threatened and we'll carry on the fight."

Dont know if anyone watched 2 Greedy Italians on bbc 2 tonight? Its was a lovely programme and despite the fact that it wasnt money saving they talked a lot about families eating together and the culture of passing recipes down from mother to daughter ,teaching cooking skills etc . I would imagine its available on bbc iplayer if anyones interested.
It made me think of o/s and how we pass recipes round like a little virtual family ,which hopefully we can pass on in turn to our own families and friends.
