Thanks for the info on food prices FTM. I really need to get my act together!!!! I was hoping that by the end of the year I would have a permanent place to live but now that seems to be a bit optimistic - oh well onwards and upwards, lol. I'm going to try and stock up, if possible,in both homes so it might take a bit more shifting-ever tried moving house by bus??:rotfl:-but at least I'll have a good basic store cupboard.:D

Just throw me some of your energy please 'cos mine's gone walkabout :rotfl::o

Mancbird - I think Lakeland have opened a few recently but this is Woodlands at Stapleton (Leics). If you are Manchester then do you mean Bridgemere? I love Bridgemere, they have a Hobbycraft which Woodlands doesn't, and a miniature ride on train which makes a small boy very happy.

The poach pods have mixed reviews but worked well for us.

I'm an exiled mancbird lol :) it is the one at bridgemere but I live in shropshire these days :) I could be wrong but I think the hobbycraft there might have closed down :( I haven't been in a while...

Forgot to say earlier but huge congratulations to jediteacher on the birth of your baby boy :) hope I don't have a 10lb baby!!! xxx

    hi all,

Sorry to hear about OBB redlady ((hugs)) hows the fat knacker?

Well its tortuous over here what with bracing glae force winds and hard weird rain over the past four days. Been spending loads of moolah courtesy of coddy's (ds1) 11th birthday but now i think were back to normal for now. Well except for OH's b'day in two weeks time.

Apart from the above been plodding along sorting out the house, its a bombshell yet again and volunteering loads. Fingers crossed i'll get a job out of it. Right just a quick hi to everyone, back on a in a bit, going to put some jackets in the oven and make some snacks for he gannets.

Thanks very much. The vets sent a hand written card to the OH and boy, did it make both of us blub. Fat Knacker is still fat but she hasnt been over to OHs since OBB has gone. I have and as I walked through the door I saw the boys blanket and blubbed. I really need to get a grip!

And Jackie - you dont want to know what I call my trolley but it isnt very PC!! :D The handle is a bit short for me but its still better than carrying all the bags home.

    Congratulations JediTeacher - great news:)

For those of you growing veggies and that have a Starbucks nearby I thought I'd share something.

Our canteen at work serves Starbucks coffees etc and last week while I was being served the assistant asked if I was a gardener. When I said yes she offered me some used ground coffee beans to put on my plants and veg (I guess like compost). When she brought me the package it was all neatly packaged up and clearly marked as "grounds for your ground". Apparently all Starbucks do this, she told me most of them have a spot where they put the bags of ground beans/mush out for the public to take. In the case of my canteen nobody was taking them though so they started mentioning it to people.

I'm not sure how much good they will be however I figure it's worth a try and it was free so if there is a Starbucks near you it may be worthwhile popping in to see if they have any. I'll keep you posted on how successful they are at increasing my veggie yield.

The coffee grounds are really good to add to your compost heap or to ues as a mulch - especially good for things such as blueberries, strawberries, blue hydrangas but only very slightly acid for a short time so pretty good for most things. Supposed to deter snails, but not here!

Certainly 'not just animals' Kezlou! As you say, they are much more precious, and more capable of affection than many humans.I can't have pets ATMO because of long, irregular shifts, but they are part of the family. If I'm fit enough when I retire,I'll have a rescue dog or 2
Am making some cards for a friends birthday in the company of Radio4.Have asked for note of people she needs cards for this year so I can personalise them then box them up with stamps for a practical, time and money saving present.
Thanks to all who gave me good wishes on my post last night-I was very weary and a bit cheesed off-as are we all- in the current climate.I'm on my own, and have been for many years,so it's much appreciated that I could sound off and have a kind response-who needs money when we can have our faith in human nature restored?
Iam grateful-genuinely-to have an income.Sometimes I feel a bit trapped when I can see no other choice for me than to persevere with what I do-Iam in a caring profession and would always do the best that I could, but sometimes it can be very discouraging when with limited resources I and my colleagues do the best that we can but are often unappreciated.Little acts of kindness-often at our own expense-can be ignored.I will light my candle for all of us who struggle tonight. xx

Trifles there are quite a few of us who post on OS who work or used to work in the "caring professions". I myself am a retired midwife (due to ill health) but plodded on for many years in an incredibly stressful working environment that surely contributed to my declining health. Many people will understand your situation and the support that I have personally received has been immeasurable !
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Thank you,Molly 41.Like yourself,Iam in that position, but not retired as yet.I saved up for a laptop for 3 years, and read this site courtesy of a very kind friend and was heartened to see the measure of kind support from others such as yourself. It gave me confidence to post and I have not been disappointed in the response to myself and, more importantly, others who have been in acute need.
A lady recently shook my hand at work and wished me 'bon courage, madame'.This is something I treasure and call on many times if Iam feeling low.I felt privileged to have 'made a difference' to her.
On a more lighthearted note I am going to visit my sister tomorrow and am so looking forward to being with my family.I find it hard to believe my nephew is now 25 and 6ft.4! I remember changing his nappies! Not having children myself,I have been privileged to have been a hands on auntie and to have had a great deal of enjoyment from friends children! They see me as slightly mad but a great supplier of hugs and stories:).My flat is very child friendly as everything is 'bargain' or charity shop so messes welcome. Hugs to all xx

Kezlou - give FK meat??!?!!! I have the only cat in the world who will not eat fresh meat! She is a junk food addict. Whiskers and dried food for her. I have left all sorts of meat to defrost and it will be sat there until I cook it. OBB LOVED fresh meat. He was a killer in his youth and the OH bought cooked chicken for him each week which he would demolish. When we used to visit FK would steal OBBs food as he would have a selection of dried, pate and chicken. The only thing she wouldnt touch was the chicken so when we went to bed we took everything else up and left him his chicken. OBB also stole kebab, chilli and indian at the end. I guess it was because he could smell it. He loved the Takeaway Secret doner kebab. :D

FK is about to get enrolled at that vets as I have moved closer to the OH. She is a tortie and is right highly strung. Makes a total song and dance. Bet they wont be impressed after having the OBB who wooed all the ladies at the vets! :D
