Misinformed with car insurance quote. What refund should I get?

I recently had a quote for car insurance. I have a garage and drive but don’t always put my car in the garage. When getting the initial quote (which thankfully I recorded) I was told my excess would be higher if the car was not garaged between 10-6 while at home.
I sent off the required paperwork which they said they didn’t get so I sent it again. My insurance certificate dated 29th Mar said my car was not insured at all if not garaged between those hours. I emailed to query this and had a missed call and message from the guy who arranged the quote. The cheeky swine confirmed my car would not be insured unless garaged and tried to make out like I already knew this.
Today I called to cancel as this is no good. I played the portion of the call where I was told I was still insured while on the drive and they agreed I had been told this incorrectly. I paid £720 starting from 7th Mar. At first they offered to refund £471, then £554. I still refused so they called me back and offered £612. I took this but did not indicate it was in full and final settlement. On a pro rata basis they should be offering above £660 and possibly more for the inconvenience and time wasted.
Where do I stand now? Should I take it on the chin or can I pursue this further?

I’d be looking for a full refund with the view that the cover you’ve had cancels out the hassle you’ve had. 9assuming you can get replacement cover for about the same cost)
Make a complaint with the threat of escalation to the FOS if they don’t play ball.0 -
I had exactly the same policy offered by a broker last month. They did tell me I would not be insured and I decided the policy was rubbish! I got a better policy for less elsewhere.
It seems, though, that you can prove you were misinformed. Make sure you get your proof of NCD back and go elsewhere (your previous insurer should be able to provide confirmation if necessary).
Ask for interest on the money too - if you have to borrow to pay the new premium, make sure they meet the cost of the loan.
I think it is very unlikely to go to FOS - that will just cost them another £500 - but do if you have to and make sure you keep that recording safe!0
