I left BT over two years ago as my line was faulty, crackling when raining etc i even got cut off when speaking to BT faults and they called me back and even told me she heard the noise too yet if the noise was not there when the engineer turned up i would be billed £128

I told her it only happened when it rained and as i could not predict the weather that was not good enough, her advice was to put up with it till it happened 24/7 so i switched to Virgin Media ad problem solved.

I used no extensions, tried wired and wireless phones plugged direct into the test socket but same result.

Would never use those crooks BT ever again, my line still has a dial tone and the crackling is still there years later!

When you first reported the fault, BT should have taken you through this stage to establish where the fault was. What tests did they ask you to carry out?
You should also have tested with a corded handset to esnure it's not an issue with a cordless DECT handset.
In five minutes these checks will tell you if the fault is internal or on BT's side of the master socket.

Hi im not sure what checks they ased her to carry out when she first called them I will have to ask her when I see her to see if she can remember. I know she has corded phones anyway ?

Im sure the engineer who visited her will have made a report of what he found so if BT can prove my mum was responsible for the problem and it is not releted to the same problem her neighbour is now experiencing then we will have to pay the call out charge
    Thanks

    Hi,
thanks sorry to hear you have had the same problem.I know she said the crackling was always there though and when she used to call me it would cut off and she would have to call back. The one thing that makes me a bit suspicious is the fact that she could hear other peoples conversations almost as if the lines were crossed I really dont understand how this could happen if the problem was inside her house but im no expert.

I cant believe how many people have had this same problem they must be making loads of money on call outs alone !
    Thanks Again
  • Have sent Watchdog an email, to see if they might perhaps like to reopen their prior investigation and give BT the chance to comment.

I'm sure that, since this has been going on since 2009, they will welcome the opportunity to reassure people that these are just one-off, isolated mistakes.
