Just taken NPower to court and won
Options
Hi,
We have been in court today against NPower and have won our case against them. The judge ruled that the £3000 debt should be written off and that NPower pay all our court costs - went through the small claims court. One for the little people - don't let them grind you down if you are going through the same think that we have done for over two years.

Well done. Did they bother turning up or did you receive judgement by default?
However remember that winning a civil claim is one thing, when it comes to getting a utility co. to pay up, you may find that's equally onerous...bailiffs will find it difficult to collect from a company that may have few tangible assets. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Can you give details please!0

Well done.
You may now have to put up more cash to send in the bailiffs. I had to do that with B&Q once - won in small claims, then they didn't pay. When I spoke to the bailiffs, they said they just pile up several orders for B&q, then they go when they have several to collect. There's no fuss, it's just how they've costed their complaints business - they reckon it's cheaper to pay the bailiffs than fight they cases or do anything else. (was a few years ago though).
If you won by default, since it's quite a large sum, I'd half expect NPower to apply to have the judgement set aside, and you may be back to square one. The NP legal bods may not even know about the case yet!. All depends on the circumstances, which are a bit light on detail. Could you expand a bit?0 -
If you've beaten them that would make at least two customers who've beaten them recently then. :T I do love to hear of Npower getting their just deserts
Like Cardew & Grahamc2003, I would be interested in hearing more of the details please.0 -
Hi,
I run a small shop which only has the basic electricity appliances i.e kettle, lights, small fridge etc however I have been receiving bill from NPower which run into the thousands.
I have called their Customer service team many times and the response I receive is that they'll put a note on the system and the bills just keep rolling in.
The other week a debt collector arrived on NPower's behalf and simply smiled when I showed him the bills, apologised and left.
I received a call from NPower saying that if I do not renew my contract my bills will continue to increase.
I tried to switch energy supplier however then I received a letter from Npower saying they have blocked the transfer because I owe them £2,000!
I then got another letter saying they are taking me to court to get a Warrant to remove items from my premises.
I have tried paying what I think the bills should be i.e around £300 a month however I am worried about going to court as I don't know my rights or what the outcome will be.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
James0 -
