The posts don’t look substantial enough to do any serious damage, it looks like the sign has just folded flat on impact and has been pulled back up later.
It is interesting that everyone seems to have a different idea of what happened. anotherbaldrick, could you post the pics of the other views?0 -
Who'd pull the sign back up without removing the van first? :rotfl:
The police to tie their tape to or the neighbours, fed up of lost people asking where Salvation Place is?More likely the van just rode over the top of the sign, if those posts weren't strong they wouldn't still be there!
I’d be surprised if the van could have run up the sign without taking the name plate off, looks more like it’s been flattened and then pulled back up (see the bottom of the posts/ground)It is interesting that everyone seems to have a different idea of what happened. anotherbaldrick, could you post the pics of the other views?
Yep, more pictures needed0 -
Salvation Place is in fact a minor access onto what is a straight 3 lane road. It appears the driver crossed all the lanes and perfectly aligned his front wheels on the sign support posts which bent forming a launch pad allowing him to clear the earth bank and into the ditch beyond. You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

Well it's not completely straight. Could be too fast for the bend, blowout, or contact with another vehicle?
Streetview0 -
Could be someone pulled out and he swerved0

Well the first image does show damage to the nearside rear.0

Maybe he was intending to turn off and go down Salvation Place, but turned in whilst going too fast, not realising it was such a tight bend.
It could have been an overtaking car or going too fast and losing control on the slightly curved Young St that saw him there. It's a shame we'll never know for sure.0 -
Looking at the street view, I reckon he's planted it in there because he was overtaking at the same time as an oncoming vehicle.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
