Post Office - Day Light Robbery

Was in the queue earlier at my local PO with my large letter, with pre-paid pay pal postage label on.

OAP in front of me went to the counter with a Birthday Card in hand stating to the clerk that there was a pair of earring inside as a present.
Without hesitation, the clerk said "you need Special Delivery pop it on the scales" duly done, total weight being 0.29g....."that will be £5.45 please" even though the lady expressed on how the earrings didn't even cost that much, the clerk didn't even mention/offered Recorded Delivery or even enquire the approx. value of the item. I found myself speaking out loud on how if you went recorded it will only cost you less than £2 (£1.23 to be exact now l have the prices to hand) alas the lady chose to go by the clerks advice.

Just made me angry on how someone can take advantage of a customer like that.

So now its my turn at the counter which may have been an act of revenge, the clerk attempts to charge me the 14p difference from yesterdays postage cost compared to todays new charges, her face was a picture when l politely pointed out how it was a pre-paid postage label exactly the same as me using stamps l had brought weeks ago. The COP got signed, stamped and past back to me in total silence....lol

Recorded delivery doesn't cover jewellery, whatever the value. So the clerk would have been wrong to suggest it.

But it's not worth paying £5 for "insurance" on a pair of ear-rings that only cost £1, don't you think?
