Suggest you download Hijack this, run its update and do a scan. Save the log and post it to http://www.d-a-l.com/help/forumdisplay.php?f=8
.Go to the site and read the announcements first. They specialise in Hijackthis logs and will hold your hand until its cleared.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
Sounds like something dodgy to me.
As a temporary measure, you can press Ctrl + Alt + Del, and click on 'svghost.exe' in the processes tab, and then click End Process. Just make sure you don't end 'svchost.exe' as these are sometimes v. important.
If you End Process on svghost.exe at least you can see if your pc is running faster without it running.0 -
Are you using Adobe? It could be something to do with that. :-/0

Just checked my processes and I have it also, Beginning to think it should be there after all. At present its not using any memory. check out http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314056
??is it svghost or svchost??I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
Svchost often has multiple instances. It has four as I write. I have never seen an Svghost (I don't have XP but win2k). I have seen a copy of Svchost slowly run away with all my system resources when my system was infected. Fortunately the virus was date dependant so I changed the date to the future and rebooted to allow a download of AVG6 (freeware) and ad-aware (freeware) then Zone Alarm (freeware).
I have seen nothing good about svghost.exe. Alas it's net reports are sketchy at best.

Sorry to whitter on - but Adobe have a thing called svgviewer - (Scalable Vector Graphics or something) - if you look in your Adobe folders you'll find svg type things - could it be these? ???0

if it is svchost,
svchost has to run in the background in process to let you have access to the the internet through internet explorer and windows,
you will probably find four instances of svchost when you bring task manager up in windows,
if it is scvhost, then it may be a virus masking itself as a legitimate program looking for a hole in the administrator rights.
hope that helps,0 -
definitely svghost

That said it also appears to be a part of Win2000 or people are making typos, and as someone else pointed out it can also be part of an Adobe package0
