OS Cake Pops!

Hi all,
Over the weekend, everywhere i went i was followed by cake pops - round pieces of cake on a lollipop stick, then covered with a range of toppings.
Now, i can do the toppings in an OS manner, it's just the cakes themselves. I thought i would make small cupcakes then shape each one into a perfect round. However, i ended up with lots of cake scraps (which got eaten anyway but took forever to do!) and 12 oddly round-ish cake pops.
So the question is how to make the perfect round ball shaped cakes without wasting the rest of the cake and without taking up an entire afternoon to do???
Any help much appreciated! :T

I saw a recipe when you made a cake, broke into crumbs and stuck it back into little round balls with the help of a ganache-y like sticky-together-cement thing. Lol. Let me see if I can the recipe again...0

I must be getting old :o
I found this page on cake pops and there is afacebook page if you google. It's crumbs merged as someone said.
Where do you go that you see these everywhere?
I'm pretty sure we don't have a thread already, but if anyone knows of one, let me know. Otherwise ill merge this with baking quick questions later

I've made them. It was a way (admittedly adapted from looking at various websites) for me to use up some fairy cakes which had got a bit toasty in the oven. As crumbs, the cakes were fine, and then I just mixed it with standard buttercream icing and rolled it into balls. When it had set a little, I dipped them in melted chocolate.
I have to say though, that it was around Halloween and the shapes weren't perfectly spherical. They got renamed as Monster Drops

I've made some too, chocolate cake in a big tin crumbled up, mixed with cream cheese icing then shaped into balls and frozen, then dipped into some red "candy melts" which I bought from hobbycraft and then dipped in sprinkles.... yum!0

My sister bought me the cakepops book for Christams - it seems to be smashed up cake bound with frosting rolled into balls; if you freeze them they are easier to coat. They advise you use coating chocolate rather than icing or normal chocolate to cover them in.
They look pretty, but I found them horribly sweet and I can't say I was impressed personally.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
