I've just goten a car. It is a low value, only £250 - £300 I imagine.
I have taken a look in Martins Article [ http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1092813037,41960, ]
That has been great, but I was wondering what tips anyone had for a NEW DRIVER, only 18 and a half!!? How can I get the premium down?
Also, I am going away for a long time in 6 months to do some personally funded voluntary work. Most insurers quotes are 10/12 months long. How ever, is there a 12 month contract with insurers usually? I cannot afford to throw away 6 months of insurance, especially when my earnings are pretty tight as it is!
All help greatly appreciated!
Matt.

Hi - as you only need 6 months insurance try https://www.ecarinsurance.co.uk for their monthly pay as you go policy but inevitably at your age it is costly.0

Do the pass plus. It reduced my son premium by £250.0

Also take the Institute of advanced motorist test details here:
http://www.iam.org.uk/
Not a legal requirement but so good for young drivers. You will learn a great deal about avoiding accidents and how to drive if someone is doing stupid things to you such as tailgating.0
