Gas Disconnected
I'll try and keep this as brief as possible.....
Moved into this flat on 10th November and phoned British Gas who said that gas was not registered at the property and they did not know who the previous supplier was. After giving sereial numbers/meter reading I was told that the gas had been set up and and I would get a call from their customer services within 5 working days for someone to take direct debit details etc.. Nobody called me back so I rang a further 2 times and also sent them an email. Again, nobody has called me back.
Roll on today..... got home from work just under an hour ago to find a card through my door from Northern Gas Networks saying I had been disconnected. I rang them, they told me to contact British Gas. I did, they said that because my details have not been processed yet, I have to wait for anything up until 10th December before I could be reconnected. This is because my application is 'still in the system' and there was nothing they could do. Apparantly the previous supplier must of instructed Northern Gas Networks to cut the property off.
I've just called energywatch and they took some details but there is nothing they can do until I get a call back tomorrow.
So, i've no gas, hot water, my cookers electric and i'm sat here freezing my harris off
I'm not sure waht the next step now, will be but if anyone out is thinking of going with British Gas... DON'T!!!!!

Well hopefully something will be done tomorrow. As well as getting Energy Watch on the case, i've rang British Gas back and spoke to a more helpfull lady. She's going to submit my details to management and somebody will be calling me back tomorrow (or so she says
).
One thing though, i've heard I could be charged for being reconnected. Hope that's not true?!This space is available to rent...0 -
If the previous supplier arranged the disconnection, BG wouldn't be able to do it until they became the supplier which usually takes 28-36 days from when you called them. Until the changeover date the old provider is responsible for the meter and you should have been advised to try and find them. However if it has been disconnected due to debt it is more than likely the old company will not let the transfer go through anyway. Call xoserve (Transco) on 08706081524 to find out who that current supplier is. Of course it is always possible BG are already the supplier and haven't realised, which does happen more often than you might think, in which case they would be responsible for the whole mess.0

Thanks for the reply tripled. The estate agent originally rang the vendor who said npower was the previous supplier. When I contacted them, they said there was no details registered to the property and they couldn't connect me without knowing who the actual supplier was (confusing I know), so I decided to go with British Gas because thats what the stickers said on the meter.
I'll give that number a ring tomorrow and see what they say. This space is available to rent...0
