Currys customer services

Some people will be amazed at this, but I just had a nice email from Currys customer services....

Here's my email:
Hello,

I have just purchased a
Belling G758SS Stainless Steel Gas cooker from your store in Watford for the price of £399.99. I was purchasing several items (fridge, freezer, microwave and cooker) as I am in the process of buying my first home. I always thought that Currys was 'always lowering prices' but I just checked that your sister store Dixons Plc sells the identical cooker for £318.00 - a difference of £81.99 (20% cheaper).

Your store did not have the cooker in stock and we are waiting for delivery.


Considering that Dixons, Comet and John Lewis will price match, I would expect the same from Currys, but I can not find any details on your site.

I do not want to have to cancel the order (order ref 7460311885) but I will if it means saving the difference.

I have just checked the FAQ section of your website and it makes reference to the
Currys Contract of Confidence. Please can you let me know the details of this and an how I may apply it to this purchase.

Dear Ringo,

Thank you for your email

As with all retail outlets prices within our store's do fluctuate on a
daily basis. Therefore the cost of a product may change the day
after a customer has purchased goods.

Due to the above we do offer a price-match policy which would
entitle a customer to a price-match within the store. This would
not include any special offers, Internet sales which become
available or if the product is not available at the time the price
match is requested.

Therefore if it the price change is within 7 days of purchase may
I suggest you contact the store of purchase where a member of
staff will be able to assist you further. All our store's telephone
numbers can be obtained by calling our branch locator line on
08705 500 049.

However if it is outside the allowed 7 days of purchase we are not
able to offer the price match.

How good is that?? Now, we're picking up some things (fridge, freezer) on Thurs, so i'm hoping they'll refund my 80 quid then.

My advice: be nice to customer service people and tell them it straight

  • Their email is polite, but I would hardly say it's brilliant service. They're just telling you to go back to CS at your local store; you could have done that instead of wasting your typing time!

  • And your local store will tell you that they dont pricematch online sites

    and the letter states
