Car insurance renewal - can this be right?!

Just got my insurance renewal notice through from Aviva.

£540 for a 10 year old 1.6 Audi A3.
Started at £400 when I bought the car 3 years ago and gradually creeped up.

I'm a 30 year old male with 9 years no claims and have held a completely clean license (touch wood!) for around 12 years. Aren't premiums supposed to go down as you get older?!

I've done a trawl on the comparison sites and to be honest, most are £700+ so does anyone know what's causing this or are premiums just rocketing across the board?

time to get rid of the motor I think

  • 30% to 40% is a very recent increase...(past 2-3 months) and we are all getting hammered by it, I understand its standard practise for insurance companies to do so when theres a recession, their explanation is increase in the amount of uninsured drivers:lipsrseal
Dont sell the car though, if its reliable. A decent replacement could likely be a heap, and cost you far more.
Dont be loyal to your insurance company or broker, make sure you check out, direct line, chris knott, adrian flux and make sure highway give you a quote too.

I moved to Aviva back in Jan. After my first no-claims year with Admiral I was expecting a nice juicy discount of approx 30%, but no, it was a whopping 10% increase. Aviva were not only cheaper but I got £70 cash back too through a cash back website.

Likewise ! if these companies aren't interested in keeping my trade -then ......... I move every year, usually via Quidco.
Car, House, Cat - all the same.

    thanks guys

yep - I've done the whole switching thing myself for the past few years with a pretty good success rate, especially when Quidco cashback etc was factored in. Will take another look tonight.

I have 9 - does this count? (Not mathematically of course :rotfl:).

lol In all seriousness though, I'm not sure how many years NCB you need to benefit from that offer. I refuse to get a quote from Aviva because I hate the guy in their adverts.

    EDIT:

Am I eligible for the 12 weeks' free car insurance offer?

All new customers with four or more years' no claims discount will qualify (except Rapid Bonus and business car customers) when buying a one year car insurance policy.

  • The deal works by adding 12 weeks cost to your quote then giving you a "discount" of 12 weeks ;)
